I’ve attended Light horse tavern since 2002 when it opened. I actually moved onto Morris street the same week it opened! The owner was a delight then, and years later during lunch I had the privilege to see him again. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed coming to Light horse, for lunch and dinner for years! We now come to the lobster shack outside more relaxed street version of Light Horse which was open bc of COVID. Allowing customers to order take out and or sit in individual igloos. So happy they continue to shine in all the ways that matter. Food, drinks, service, cleanliness, atmosphere…Light Horse Tavern receive 5 stars from me then and now in 2022
Brunch there was a well-priced treat. The asparagus omelette was prepared well, each topping size the same bite. The home fries were sized the same as the toppings and this felt like an extension of the omelette. The rye bread was decent as was the sausage, not too oily. The place is beautiful and has only one TV looking away from the bar so that drinkers can drink and watchers can watch. The service was slow as was the cook time but I'd still recommend it as a great place for a $20 brunch. Vegetarian options: Varied, there is enough vegetarian stuff here. Kid-friendliness: They have booster seats and space.
Burrata salad special was good, but the prosciutto was too clumpy and stringy. The roasted chicken breast and sangria were good. Truffle cheese fries were a miss. The cheese wasn’t melted, but just placed on top of the fries. Nice outdoor seating and service was good.
Stopped by for brunch for our first visit. Restaurant is gorgeous, beautiful bar, super high ceilings with tin tiles, and a mezzanine. Tables were nicely spaced as well. I chose the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and a side of Applewood Smoked Bacon as my meal. The pancakes were flipping delicious, pun intended. Serving-size was also perfect, was worried they'd be huge but they were just right. Oh, and the bacon was fantastic, fried to perfection! My partner picked the Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries which she also enjoyed. We just had iced tea to drink but they have a full bar with a good looking cocktail list that I'd like to check out on a future visit. Server was friendly enough but disappeared on a couple occasions. Didn't wanna ding them for that cause the rest of the experience was so nice. Would definitely return!
I was throughly impressed!! Service was perfect; bartending staff is experienced & knows how to make a drink, and the food...I saved the best for last! Every dish was perfect. Look at their ribs appetizer. Meat literally fell off the bone - slow roasted for 8 hours - and the duck breast was so delicious - this place ruined duck for me now because I won't be able to order it anywhere else! 5 stars !
I’ve been wanting to try this place out ever since I moved to the area. They have great happy hour specials. I came for a drink and a light dinner. I chose the truffle fries as a snack and they were good. Can’t wait to come back again!
4 more visits. Each time better than before. We love this place so much that during COVID when NYC was shut down we took an Uber $100 each way to go here to eat. Both dinner and brunch are awesome. Just went back for a brunch and it did not disappoint. Their French Toast is the best. It is made out of a croissant. Most joints use bread so this makes it so much better. I do not even need syrup on mine but she loves the strong maple flavor in their syrup so you will see some in the photos. The other dish I LOVE is the lobster eggs benedict. TONS of lobster and a very light hollandaise sauce makes this a dish to remember. Fries here are thin and crispy like we like them, but note that they also have home fries if you prefer the thicker softer style of fries. Desserts are lovely, we love the banana cake/pudding and the apple strudel/pie. When you go for dinner be sure to get the BBQ ribs they are outstanding. I will try to find some photos from our dinner a year ago there, because all the food was spectacular. Photos below are from our most recent brunch only. We prefer to sit upstairs for brunch, but we had dinner in front of the real wood burning fireplace which was very romantic and got me those all important marriage points!!!!. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. We don't get paid, we just love to eat. Really loved this spot! High ceilings, antique/ upcycled furnishings, great food, nice size portions at a great price! We order steak and eggs, LHT Burger with bacon, Bloody Mary, etc. everything was cooked to order and delicious!!
Lovely place to eat in Jersey City! Came here on a double date with our wonderful friends for Sunday brunch. Mimosas were great, the flavor of our avocado toast was delicious! I think I may always need to add pears and walnuts from now on because the flavor combo was outstanding. We also ordered shrimp cocktail appetizer which was good. The interior was beautiful too with a piano and bar set up with tables for indoor dining as well we sat outdoors. Staff was very polite, accommodating to my dairy allergy, and very nice. Could benefit from slightly faster service we waited a very long time for food, but because we were so happy to see and catch up with our friends we didn’t mind the wait. Overall very nice- you will leave happy and satisfied if you come :! If you liked our review, check out our travel account on Instagram @andiamoadventure
I will admit that I was skeptical about this place. With the wood paneling and the sports games on TV, it looked like a local bar and I had lowered my expectations to expect typical bar food. First, our server was attentive and helpful. More importantly- or just as important- from the first bite, I was blown away by the food. The crispy ribs were so tender and tasty, I'd come back just to relive that mouth watering first bite! I then ordered the lobster tagliatelle. It tasted fresh and savory. An unexpectedly delightful meal in an unassuming place
