Hecho en Homewood Original Mexican food + spirits influenced by our Southern soul. Slow-smoked meats, fresh-pressed tortillas, everything made from scratch!

Story

Why do we use the phrase “Hecho en Homewood”? Because that is truly what happens at Little Donkey, everything is made here. From the grinding of the corn for our fresh masa that we use to form and press every tortilla, to the sweet sauces that top our desserts. Everything is “Hecho en Homewood” Little Donkey was born out of our love of the vibrant flavors and brilliant combinations that traditional Mexican cooks have created for centuries. The recipes that we have researched and tasted inspired us and gave us a glimpse into the soul of regional cooking. We started to understand and see that this is family food, comfort food, party food and soul food. We saw direct relationships to the way traditional Southern cooks celebrate, comfort and nourish with our own regional cooking and we wanted to bring it to Homewood — our home, our neighborhood.

Awesome experience; upscale Mexican cuisine. Meats are all slow cooked in house and extremely juicy and tender. Salsa was homemade and takes 3 hours to reduce to an excellent and smoky flavor. Great serv, great location with ample parking; will definitely be back!
Great experience, our bartender Chelsea M. did a fantastic job and never stopped working. Food was delicious, especially the churros! The new location feels a bit more classy then the original, but still enjoyable!
I met some friends here on a Thursday evening. It was crowded and people waiting outside. You can try to park in their parking lot or on the street but caution it is not easy backing out because your view can be obstructed by other vehicles parked next to you. Of course the first draft beer I picked was tapped out. Fortunately my next choice Good People IPA was still available. I decided on the Throwback Taco plate and was pleased to see hard taco shells are offered unlike Moss Rock Tequila & Tacos which does not! My order came out quickly and was delicious. The side dish of fruit was excellent and there are more choices for side dishes with this entrée. There is seating outside and a large bar if you prefer sitting inside instead.I look forward to returning and trying other items on their menu.
There are Mexican restaurants all over the place and most are all the same. If you like Mexican food, then you need to check this place out. Good food, lots of flavors, and great service. Kid-friendliness: Easy to work with.
My 1st time here. I got the smoked chicken quesadilla. First off, it looked like a huge slice of pizza and the taste was delicious!
I had the Adobada burrito with the red salsa. It was pretty darn tasty too! The food came fast. And the staff was friendly and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend a visit!
I really enjoy the $5 frozen drink happy hour. The drinks are all made with fresh ingredients. The food is pretty good and fresh but VERY expensive. My server Julia was very attentive and was great! She really made my experience here great because of her service <3
An Absolutely amazing atmosphere. Super delicious food. They also have shots of the day which are $3/shot. This is a picture of their Chicken Quesadilla. It's HUGE! Super delicious and served with a chipotle crema sauce. Definitely one of my new favorite places to come for Mexican/TexMex.
Quaint little Mexican restaurant in Homewood with plenty of outdoor seating and a full service bar. Our party of 7 was seating immediately on St. Patrick's Day, just after 5. We had our choice of two salsa dips plus we ordered queso which had slight jalapeno flavor and some fresh avocado dip. My wife and I shared 3 meat fajitas with awesome "smoked chicken and steak" with shrimp. The kids enjoyed some chicken drumsticks. And ofcourse we had to try some fried cinnamon churos for dessert! Excellent service.
Came in here for a quick snack of chips, queso and a beer. Great atmosphere. Good food. Best beer I’ve had in a longtime. Truckstop Honey - a brown ale. So good I had two and wanted more.
