Been taking my dog here for 5 years but was never enamored with staff or facility. Didn't always smell the best and owner can be abrupt/course. Customer Service is not always the priority here since I was expected to inconvenience myself to drop my dog off during work day hours to board to accommodate her policy; which is ridiculous!....She didn't seem to care when I told her I would be finding another boarding facility; which I have and feeling really good about it! I really don't know how she stays in business!
There are not enough positive things we can say about Little Rascals. My dog LOVES going and playing with her friends. The owner is wonderful. We had scheduled a grooming appointment and ended up having to reschedule 3 times our own poor planning and she made it so simple. When our dog got groomed, we weren't sure how she would do since she had never been to the groomer. Much to our surprise, she seemed to love it! We wanted to keep her longer, but her fur was rather matted from her journey up here rescued from Texas. When keeping her fur longer wasn't working, the owner communicated that to us. She looked phenomenal when we picked her up! She is so much more comfortable without her heavy coat. We will 100% be bringing our girl back in the future. Cannot recommend this place enough!
We love taking our dog to Little Rascals. In our experience, the owner has been very straightforward about how the facility functions. For example, we asked about bringing a bed for our dog, and she said that we should be prepared for it to get a little torn up. I think that's perfectly reasonable, as dogs are different from humans and shouldn't be treated the same as in a human daycare. The reviews I am reading about the owner are ridiculous. She is professional, if a bit quirky, and has amazing skills with animals.
I took my 10 month old pitt mix in for a socialization interview which is required before your dog can come for daycare or be boarded. Upon entering the establishment there is no real reception area, but the owner has made due with the space allotted. There's definitely a distinct animal smell on the inside, but I'm not sure that is necessarily a turn off being that it is a doggy day care. One thing I did notice is that the photos on the website and even the Google+ profile must be from the previous location because I was expecting to see the tiled play area but instead it is a dark colored laminate flooring. Although I understand why the new facility hasn't been photographed because it could use some renovations both exterior and interior. All of these things did not deter me from leaving Phoenix for the day. I stayed and watched for a while and he was having a blast which is all I really cared about. Upon picking him up he was still the same energetic and happy pup that I dropped off so I was pleased. He smelled horrible but no different from when he comes from the dog park and was easily fixed with a quick bath. Overall I was happy with the experience because Phoenix got home and slept the rest of the evening which is what I was hoping for. Little Rascals is a nice neighborhood small business and I can see myself taking Phoenix back to expend more energy and possibly even for extended overnight stays.
Inexcusably rude owner/lady. I wish I'd read these reviews sooner. When trying to schedule a grooming over the phone she was curt, not helpful, and couldn't tell me how long it might take "several hours" was the most specific she'd get. Another hassle when I had to call back to change the appointment time.... it turns out since I'd responded to her mandatory confirmation text by calling, which apparently broke her rules, she had cancelled my appointment and I got a stern lecture about needing to respond by text. Mind you she'd never explained on the phone this was necessary. The day of the grooming, I had scheduled both my pets but because I had just moved I could only find the vaccination records for one. I explained this when I showed up before 8am with just the one and she didn't comment. When I went to pick up my dog she charged a no show fee for the other. I said that I'd bring my pet in right then and she responded that drop off had to be before 10am. Had she bothered to mention this in the morning I would've hunted down those papers. She was almost gleeful in her delivery of this news and had the worst, most sarcastic attitude. When I refused to pay, she said she wouldn't release the dog I was there to pick up. Blackmail. I tried to pay with my other groupon and she said I was wasting my time that it was only 1 per household. I then tired to pay with cash and she required exact change, which I didn't have. She is a complete troll. Now, let's talk about the cleanliness of this establishment. Horrid. Dirty, smelly. The place could use an overall scrub, fresh coat of paint, and some serious upgrades. It looks like someone operating out of their garage or basement. Enter this place at your own risk and know that the staff will look for any opportunity to screw you, and do it with joy.
We've been taking our elderly dog to Little Rascals for several years and the staff members are always very attentive. They remember our dog when I call to book her in, and they have created a custom boarding package for her at no additional charge because she is elderly and has problems with her back legs. It's nice to be able to go out of town knowing that our family pet is in good hands.
Our dog had been to little rascals before so we instantly thought of the place when we had to go away for one night. When we picked him up we were told we had a balance from another time how come we weren't told that when we made the reservation. Note - how could we have retrieved our dog the last time with a balance. Also their record keeping seems to be a bit sketchy - they told us they had our dog down for not being neutered he is a rescue dog....??? We got him home and noticed a terrible itchy - because he scratched at it rash that same night. We took him back to have them look at it and they were rude. They asked "what do YOU think it is" . That is not how you talk or communicate with your customers. The only thing they did was read us the riot act about their contract - never showing concern for his well being. We won't be back.
After researching I believe this is the only, or at least one of the only, dog boarding companies in DC. Fortunately, it is located at a convenient spot right off of Georgia Ave. The prices are reasonable and I have never had a problem with booking a reservation. I wish my dog can speak so I can get her opinion on things, that way I can get a real opinion on how things really are. Other than that, I think its ok. If 3 was average on a scale from 1-5, I would rate this place a 3.5. This is owned by a small business owner, not some corporation. I like to support small businesses.
I had an incredibly similar experience to Kendra... I left my dog, Calvin, with Little Rascals for three nights after a family emergency came up and I needed to leave town. I was nervous about this place as soon as I walked in, there was an overwhelming smell of filth as well as a general sense of disorganization. However, due to the nature of my situation I had no other choice. When I left him I was told that I would be made aware of any injuries or incidents that occurred while he was there. Needless to say I should have trusted my gut and found other arrangements. When I picked Calvin up he was dirty, smelly and incredibly anxious. As soon as I got in the car and took a good look at him I noticed a large cut over his eye that was open and bleeding. I called to find out what happened and was told that they had no idea. The cut was dirty and infected. This spiraled into a staph infection and over $2,000 in vet bills. Terrible.
I have been going to Little Rascals for boarding for several years. I'm very, very pleased with my experience there. My dog is well cared for and comes home happy. The staff is courteous and friendly. No problems at all!
