Absolutely infuriated with this place. Honesty was not present in the slightest. A simple oil change by itself should not cost $100. When I asked why it was so expensive, the only explanation was that I chose the “better” option instead of whatever option was the standard one which is still $80 and I was never made aware of this option in the first place OR of what the prices would be. My car dealership gives better, faster service at less than a third of the price for the same exact service. Do better. UPDATE: PLENTY of other places in town that are cheaper. Plus, after I went back in to get my refund since my car was leaking ALL of my oil onto my garage floor, I was asked to change my review by the store manager because he didn’t want my bad review to affect their good reviews. AND my right side mirror was flipped backward, almost broken, which I noticed after leaving the parking lot. So here’s my changed review. So unprofessional.Service: Oil change
I am not sure I could give this place a good review. This was my first time using this business. The format to check in was nice seeing someone on the screen who explained the services and total estimated price. Although slightly higher in price than others in town, I was glad when he said it would only be 20-30 minutes and to pull around into lane 1. One hour and fifteen minutes later, I am still sitting in lane one waiting. Cars that were in front of me were directed into lane 2 in the building, and two cars from lane two, who were behind me checking in, went in front of me into lane 1 in the building. Not sure what the issue is with organizing who goes first, but why have multiple lanes of cars matched to lanes inside your business when you switch them from one lane to another lane. And obviously, not a first come, first serve business. Hopefully before the sun goes down, I can get my oil changed. Update: one hour and 30 minutes after checking in, finally got my oil changed. Although my receipt notes the mechanic checked my tire pressure and put them all to the standard recommended pressure, they remained the same according to my dash as when I went in. My TPMS was on for low pressure when I went in the door and still on when I left. Got home and added air myself and the TPMS light went off.Service: Oil change
This place is more expensive than others in town at about $80-90 for a full synthetic oil change. I would recommend not getting the plus if you don’t want to wait for over an hour. They don’t manage the first come first serve well. Second issue I paid for the plus but during the service the guy said he couldn’t check half the items on the list because they didn’t have the tools for a Chevrolet Malibu?Service: Oil change
This was my fourth visit to this location, and my last. I went in for the express oil change and was convinced by the lady running the kiosk to do the best oil with the plus service where they check your battery, tires ,fluids at $110. Apparently checking fluids means I cannot remain in my car - now I understand why they didn't want me watching. So after sitting in the waiting room for a few minutes the mechanic, Josh, brings me to my car to discuss his concerns, and recommends some $625 of services just based on my milage without actually having tested them like a $200+ replacement of all of my spark plugs. When I told him I wasn't prepared to do any additional services he said he wanted me to get at least one additional service and started asking me about my financial situation, and trying to tell me which services I could afford. He also notified me I had a $20 credit already on my account - that did not get applied when I didn't buy extra services. When I finally got my car back the inside was covered in grease and it was obvious they dug through my glove compartment, likely so they knew how much money they could try to weasle from me.. I went to the gas station across the street and checked my tire pressures, which were different for each tire. I'm unimpressed and frankly disappointed in the decline of customer focus at this location. We deal with enough pushy sales people when purchasing a car. I will not return to a mechanic who charges more than the dealership, harassed and took advantage, dug through my personal belongings, and left my car a greasy mess.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement
I’ve been a regular customer of the Ames location for years and moved to Ankeny recently. The Ankeny location takes much longer than the Ames location. I was here for almost two hours. They did not replace my sticker on my windshield to let me know when to come in next, which is unfortunate. The attendant who helped me was friendly and sweet, but seemed a bit nervous/unsure of what service he was recommending. Maybe he was new? I’ll come back for my next oil change, but I sure hope they can get me through quicker next time. The service was still good.
The Ankeny location is getting the beating however it is not exclusive to this location. I started using LOF a few years ago based on a recommendation and initially was pleased. The service was fast, convenient, fairly priced, and the techs seemed to know what they were doing. Unfortunately the experience is drastically different. The last time at this business I had to inform the tech that my four wheel drive vehicle does in fact have a front and rear differential and the tech questioned me when I told him It is four wheel drive. Not understanding the vehicles they are working on is a HUGE trust problem for me and should be for the company as well. Aside from the gross lack of trained technicians here is the prices I was told $100 0w20 5qt oil change, $240 drain and fill transmission service, front and rear differential $125/each. I opted to do the transmission myself else this visit would have costed $590 + tax. In addition to the experience at the Ankeny location, the Ames location technician offered to change my cold air intake filter simply because of the milage at the time of service, and it was recommended by the manufacturer. When I asked if the shop stocks K&N filters for my intake they seemed confused and simply restated it is just recommended to be changed at this time. Bottom line 10/10 do NOT recommend LOF service your vehicle due to the high cost AND lack of knowledge.Service: Oil change

I have been coming here for years with multiple different cars and have never had a problem. Until today. I took my fiancé’s 2019 accord in for a oil change and tire rotation. I’ve never actually gotten a tire rotation here before so i didn’t know I couldn’t be in the car and they drove the car into the bay while I waited in the lobby. I grabbed a tea from there great selection and was waiting. My fiancés car has 19inch rims stock and I care more about those things than she does so naturally I was nervous when they lifted her car up and started to change the tires around. I watched the guy in the pit use a mallet to get the tires off and they tumbled right onto the floor rims faced straight down with NO ONE in sight to catch the tire. I walked out and asked the lady if they normally just knock the tires off and let them fall and she told me “I wasn’t aware he was taking them off” so yeah I freaked out and was mad. I’m still upset that they didn’t offer me anything to make it right besides an apology. Been coming her for a long time like I said and am very upset with this situation.Services: Tires
