Story

As the fourth largest legal aid program of its type in the United States, LSLA serves over 1.5 million financially-eligible people with a staff of only 80 lawyers. In 2010, LSLA handled over 25,000 cases, benefiting 48,000 people, and obtaining over $7 million in benefits, support and other sums recovered for our clients.

To promote equal access to justice in Texas and seek justice on behalf of and for low-income Texans by providing a full range of high quality civil legal services to our clients

Lone Star Legal Aid serves millions of people at 125% of federal poverty guidelines that reside in 72 counties in the eastern and Gulf Coast regions of Texas, and 4 counties of Southwest Arkansas. Lone Star Legal Aid focuses its resources on maintaining, enhancing, and protecting income and economic stability; preserving housing; improving outcomes for children; establishing and sustaining family safety and stability, health and well-being; and assisting populations with special vulnerabilities, like those with disabilities, or who are elderly, homeless, or have limited English language skills."
