Friendly and efficient staff, roomy building, and lots of free activities along with a few classes requiring a small fee. Bingo is popular here. Restrooms are modern and clean kudos to the staff. Oh, and the park outside has walking paths, disk-golf, and others.
Not intellectually stimulating with usual programs or opportunities overall. Not well attended and supported. Best program I have encountered is the Tai Chi class taught by an amazing instructor.
Shawna the director of the Devonshire north side of the bldg not the south side, city of Phoenix was dry and rude to me. Shawna kept calling me sir. I'm a woman. After I gently explained to her why I have a deep voice for a 62yo woman. She threatened me with their ethics and policy that I signed. She never apologized to me. I did nothing wrong. I was just correcting her and she threw her power at me. I paid to be there, but haven't gone back since. I understand being an Arizona native for 62 years that at one time this was not a diverse neighborhood, because I lived here when my daughter was going to elementary school and jr high, but it is now. Don't know if that's the reason why or she was on a power trip. The south side of the bldg, on the city of Phoenix side, the lady was awesome, because she has the same condition I do that makes our voice deep. They need to get another director, a more diverse director other than Shawna.
This is a fairly clean facility. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because it didn't really wow me. Other than that, there are plenty of games, puzzles, and arts and crafts laid out for people to do. There is also ample space for a game of disc golf just outside, and a decent sized fitness area. Staff was friendly and helpful. This facility, being a senior center, is deserving of its name. I was here for a meeting and felt accommodated regardless.
I love that place! It's always so clean and tidy! Plus, Tracy and the other lady with long blond hair are so welcoming and so sweet! I really look forward to seeing their smiles when I walk through that door! That place is awesome! I love working out there!
I only went there to drop off my ballot to vote on light rail extention. But I was very pleased with what I saw. They had some gym equipment right inside the door. A nice seating area, nice pool room and a very polite and friendly man at the desk just inside. I've been to a couple other locations not a nice as this one. I wish I had taken pictures
I just love Devonshire. I haven't been for about a year but today I returned. Played Birthday bingo had sweet and sour pork for lunch and listen to some great entertainment by some great karaoke singers it was so fun. Come and join them they'll make you feel right at home!
My mom's only 65, and must be in better shape than some of the others that attend here. We went in to get a membership and check it out. The women that worked there seemed to treat her like a child I will update once I've used the facility myself. My mom tried to meet up for line dancing that is held at a different senior center. Oddly enough, they drive a group over to the other center leaving at 8:30am... But they don't start line dancing until 2:30pm!! That is very strange. Lol
Nice park. Lots of space. Olive trees. Disc gold. Play ground. Paved walking/jogging path. Not enough covered picnic tables. If a family is having a party in this park, someone stakes out a covered picnic table early.
Lots of parking for handicap and non handicap. Wheelchair accessible. Good atmosphere and lots of activities, plus billiard tables. Modest membership fee. Instructive classes on various hand crafts and subjects.
