McGehee has been an amazing place for our daughter and our entire family. From an academic standpoint, the school is beyond spectacular. In the lower school grades, the girls learn everything from engineering to women's history to basic algebra to writing in cursive and much, much more. Our daughter was able to have extraordinary academic experiences that broaden her mind in ways beyond our wildest dreams. The girls read basic Shakespeare plays in second grade and performed scenes from the Bard's great works which gave our daughter a great love of literature and acting. In third grade the girls designed products to sell in a market place and studied the basic rules of economics. In fourth grade the girls studied world history through French class and gave full presentations on other countries and their cultures in French. The academics are simply outstanding. But what makes McGehee so special is the way the school is truly a community. Everyone at McGehee is part of the McGehee family. The school fosters an environment where the girls confidently support one another in all endeavors. Our daughter not only wants to succeed in academics, athletics, etc. herself, but she also wants her classmates to do the best they can and she does everything she can to help her classmates. That is the spirit, the community, McGehee fosters. It is a spirit of excellence, not only for one's self, but excellence for the entire McGehee family. We could not be happier than we are at McGehee.
McGehee is such a wonderful school experience for not only my daughter but our entire family. Dedicated and caring teachers and faculty have been phenomenal in giving her a strong educational foundation and the friends she has made warms my heart. There are many opportunities to be involved as a parent and the sense of community is very strong. It was a struggle to find a school for my son that came close to my high expectations after being at Mcgehee. And not only the education, but the campus is beautiful and historic, the lunch program a hit, and after care is often a request I get- we’re very happy.
We have been blessed to be part of the McGehee family since my daughter was in Little Gate. She has thrived in the nurturing environment of an all girl school in uptown New Orleans. The student teacher ratio is low and we love that they focus on the individual girl. Louise S. McGehee has a long history of excellent academics and a beautiful campus. The girls are constantly being challenged to rise to the occasion. McGehee provides girls with the best advantage to achieve their dreams.
My daughter is in her sixth year at McGehee and it has been a tremendous experience. Beyond strong academics, McGehee fosters independent thinking, the celebration of differences, and growth of the whole person. This strong community of families, faculty, staff and alumna makes McGehee the preeminent school for girls in New Orleans. We could not have made a better choice for our daughter.
Louise S. McGehee is a wonderful school that my family and I have been a part of since our daughter was 2 years old. There is a wonderful sense of community throughout the school. The All Girls education builds self confidence, leadership skills and a love for learning in all areas!
The first day I stepped in to McGehee's LIttle Gate with my 3 year old daughter I knew it was a special place. It was like magic really. We met warm, understanding and well educated teachers, friendly and open parents and enjoyed an absolutely lovely campus. Although my daughter did not attend lower and middle school at McGehee, we were delighted for her to return to McGehee for high school where we found absolutely the same atmosphere. McGehee's Upper School mixes challenging expectations for high order thinking skills, leadership and independence with kindness, respect and a nurturing caring environment. The teachers are experienced, well educated and devoted to my daughter's education and her character. The administration is responsive and concerned. I love the strong, educated, independent and kind woman that my daughter is becoming with the help of this amazing school.
Since my daughter started in kindergarten six years ago, we have been impressed with McGehee in every way. They embrace your young girls and tell them they can do or be anything they want, while providing them all the tools to be successful. They push the girls to be their best and expect the girls to follow through. The teachers are top notch. They push the sciences and the arts without neglecting all the standard classes. We were amazed by how they taught entrepreneurship to second and third graders. First making by handcrafted items and then selling what they made. Through plays and class projects the girls overcome their fear of public speaking and performing in front of large audiences. Their performance of the Music Man last year by the 5th grade was better than anything we did in high school. We are fortunate to have our daughter attend such a great school.
An absolutely wonderful school experience for my daughter. I've never come across a school that truly cares so much about teaching girls to become strong confident women as well as providing a fantastic education. My daughter has loved this school since the first day of preschool and she just started 5th grade. I couldn't imagine a better environment for my daughter to grow up in.
This has been a truly wonderful experience thus far for our child. She loves school and has progressed in such a beautiful way thanks to their care, attention to detail, and direction they give these kids that allows them to become better humans than they were when they entered the school. Yes, she is worth it.
I cannot say enough good things about this school. The support our daughters receive is beyond compare. In addition to the top notch education they are developing out girls to be self sufficient leaders.
