Helpful staff, clean facilities, not too crowded from 11am-3pm, broken equipment eventually gets fixed, enough racks / benches / machines / dumbbells for your average bodybuilder. Basketball courts are passable. Schedules are always in flux due to kids activities and closes extremely early on weekends so you kind of have to be an early bird to take advantage of them and possibly to avoid the crowd of kids too
What a GREAT facility! Up-to-date cardio equipment, pool is awesome good temp, lots of lanes, very big facility with many workout options classes, basketball court, therapy pool, etc. Staff are friendly. Deep community connections-providing a food bank, day care, so many kids' programs. How lucky we are to have such a relatively new/well equipped gym at a reasonable price able to accomodate a very diverse Malden community!!!
the gym has little equipment for the number of registered students. In addition to people after finishing the exercises, they are seated on the equipment looking at the cell phone.
The Ymca schedule is hard to understand. I went to the Y to find something to exercise but despite how big the Y was, UT was always too late for the basketball and too early for the swim. The lady in the front desk was always misguided me into the wrong places so I got lost in the Y!! So far I don't like the schedule.
Very clean Professional staff Well-managed The pool is excellent The water Is perfectly balanced Thank you
Pool and weight room facilities are great, very clean and user friendly. Lifeguards have been super nice every time I've talked to them. Group classes are also great, love the yoga on Saturdays. Locker rooms are a bit outdated but they're functional. No complaints other than it's a bit hard to get ahold of the front desk if you call.
This Y is simply amazing. The staff are friendly, it's clean, everything works and it has everything I could hope for. They have a vast array of cardio equipment and not one of them is squeaking or squealing like Planet Fitness where I used to go. I like their lateral, elliptical, rowing, and newest treadmill. I do some light weight lifting and they got more than enough weight machines. I love how they're all close to each other so I can hop from machine to machine in a 60-90 minutes workout and get a solid variety circuit training. Their whirlpool is my special treat and the steam room on occasion. I have just one complaint which is that their therapy pool which really is the only thing my 7 years old son can use is always booked up with something. The open swim hour is generally open once a day for just one hour and generally at unusual hours. I try to take my son at least once a week but anymore than that I have to really go out of my way with scheduling. I enjoy their basketball court once in awhile as well but it's always too crowded. Overall it's a bit pricey for the family plan but the place is amazing and totally worth it.
Very good place to workout. I basically go to swim and I never had an issue with anybody. During COVID they keep it very clean and neat. Lockers are a little bit outdated but it’s ok. Front desk people is always nice and informative. I joined after COVID so access control is being very good, I’m not sure how this works during normal business.
Malden YMCA have all the rude staff you can imagine. I had really bad experiences with them. when it comes with kids they don't have patience. I would not recommend that place to anybody specially when it Comes with kids.
12/30/2018 I've been a member here for several years and would say its a welcoming and diverse place with bodies young and old and there is a spectrum of cultures. The locker room can get very humid and the building's age shows here more than other places. On the bright side it does have a sauna and steam room split by gender which is awesome. It's true that the floor is often wet from other people dripping after using the pool, and I've seen a few patrons using cell phone cameras or parents with kids on the adult side. I've never had trouble getting a day locker. There are a few types of pools and the lanes aren't too crowded, but it is not the cleanest. I've gone to a few classes and spin with Brad and Zumba on Friday nights are both popular and good workouts. The weight section is the best, lots of benches/squat racks/mirrors/functional lifting such as sandbags/grip builders/tires etc., but that means it can feel like a male dominated space. The ab mat section was replaced with a horrible material, but that mistake was quickly corrected. My biggest concern is the wifi. The connection is so spotty its difficult to listen to music when working out--and you can forget about streaming a favorite show during cardio. In the past month, a senior member of the staff decided they wouldn't support it at all and turned the service off see photo. This seems like a basic gym amenity to me and I could see the parents waiting to pick up their kids from swimming or basketball having issues with this as well. There is a fairly high staff turnover and some of them do rush you out of the building at closing time. Meanwhile they could be more assertive kicking kids off of cardio/weight equipment. Hours on Sunday often feel tight with the early closing at 6pm. Parking in the winter can be more challenging, especially with the new resolution folks coming in and the spots lost to snow. It also drives me a little nuts that holiday hours are only posted with physical signs at the gym not on the website or via e-mail and snow closings require you calling to ask.
