Maple & Pine Restaurant

Had a great mother's day meal with my mom, sister and daughter. Only had the brunch menu to choose from but I understand they have great dinner menu options. The staff was super attentive and very knowledgeable without being overbearing. They did a really nice job renovating the space here at the quirk hotel. Definitely worth a visit.

Went here for the roof top bar. Gave the car to the valet and found out there was a line for the rooftop bar. So we sat at the lounge area of the restaurant. Friday night, dressed up crowd nice vibe to the place but not super crowded. Drinks were nice. Good service. We are headed back to the hotel for VCU graduation. Maybe we will get to the rooftop bar after all.

This will sound stupid, but make sure you say yes to the bread and butter. It was surprisingly amazing. There is wild flower honey and grey sea salt in the butter and it needs to be in your belly if you know what's good for you. The cheese puffs are tasty and fun for a snack at the bar. Black truffle risotto with a poached eggs was as expected and did not disappoint. Only flaw was a heavy hand with salt but I'm not even mad about it. Very pleasant and warm staff will help steer you in the right direction.

Had dinner here for my husband's birthday, and it was fantastic. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the entire menu, and I highly recommend asking them to explain how the dishes are prepared. There are so many details that can't be explained on the menu. Both servers were able to make excellent recommendations for cocktail starters and wine. We started off with the smoke and rye cocktail, which was boozy with a touch of maple that smoothed out the flavors. Shared the chanterelle risotto, which, as we would find with our entree selections, had a complex profile of flavors. Every ingredient could be experienced with every bite. Ordered the rockfish and the sage fettuccine, both of which were surprising, and a delight to eat. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in Richmond in the last few years. Would highly recommend!

The quiche of the day that I had was incredible. I tasted several other dishes, and most were .. if I'm being nice: subtle... If I'm harsh: bland. The cocktails were not inspired. None felt particularly well balanced, some tasting overly harsh, others relying on sweetness to do most of the with for them... That said, nothing was bad and every egg at the table was perfectly cooked (including my amazing quiche: chorizo, blue cheese, date, confit shallot)... In the end, it comes down to what I'm getting for how much I spent... I enjoyed, but if I never go back, that is just fine. That said... If you find that you like subtler flavors, the wait staff was wonderful, attentive, and helpful; the ambiance is very (hip-sophisticate) pleasurable: this might be the place for you... (I labored over if this was a like:4 it an ok:3... In the end, I decided because of price and my lack of desire to go back that it was just a 3 to me... It's ok)
