Mariposa Salon - Uptown

From the stars its obvious I love my stylist here-she's personable, a good listener, and an amazing artist. I'd give Taj 10 stars. But I'm moved to review because this salon is so warm, wonderful, and welcoming without pretension. These are genuinely good people providing excellent service. Even the other customers are fantastic! Highly recommend.

Jewel made my dreams come true to a level that I could have never imagined! I came with a screenshot of a faux hawk meets 50’s updo as an idea and Jewel took it and ran with it. It made for a unique and stylish look for my wedding day and went perfectly with the suit I wore. I’ve never felt so “myself” and comfortable in all of my life. I received so many compliments on my hair and true to her word, it lasted the test of time thru the whole night. The salon itself was so welcoming and hospitable. I am so glad to have found Mariposa and Jewel.

What a fabulous salon to walk into. Everyone there is friendly. The place is always clean. My hair stylist and colorist, Jewel, is a jewel. She gave me one of the best short haircuts ever. I feel lucky.

By far the best salon in NOLA. Go to Taj--she will transform you from the outside in. I had another colorist at a different salon do a terrible job and when I went to Taj she truly understood what I needed and wanted and did something even better than I could have imagined. The salon is clean, cute, crisp, and they offer snacks and drinks for free. It is a bit pricey my partial was 315 but it was cheaper than the bad salon I went to and 10000% worth every penny. YOU NEED MARIPOSA IN YOUR LIFE!!!!

This is such a great salon! I saw Kristen P. And was looking to get a light balayage and a cut. She did an amazing job my color was amazing and she was super friendly and nice. Please see the photos attached she did such a wonderful job! Best balayage I have ever gotten.

I had a hair emergency, I tried calling all the salons nearest my Airbnb and this was the only one that actually picked up the phone. Tyler helped me and made my hair so beautiful again! I needed a color correction, and it turned out even better than before my little mistake. He was such a sweetheart and really worked a miracle for me, thank you!

Everyone at Mariposa Salon is friendly and the light-filled space is gorgeous! I had my color touched up and a haircut by SAMANTHA and she did an amazing job. She listened to what I was going for an executed on what I was envisioning perfectly. She’s also just a really great person to spend 2 hours with, I couldn’t recommend her more.

Shanna gives THE BEST hair wash with strong fingers and attention to temples and neck. She provides an attentive cut with beautiful styling. I wish she could style me every day. Well worth the time and price.

Memory lane: I was a customer at Mariposa when NY Brenda was in Mid City and sometimes her DC husband manned the reception desk. If I recall correctly, she started at Orleans St then moved by the Rouse's on N Carrollton. Her training of junior stylists is elite. If you're thinking of going to a Dominican salon, skip that assembly line and come here. It's not cheaper here but all stylists at this place are legit, and can cut, dye, blow dry, and smoothen hair efficiently and with care. I've moved away since, and the salon has since moved to the garden district, so every time I visited town I made sure to book myself in Brenda's chair for a blowout. She's worth the lead stylist premium. Every place I have moved, I need to have 5 hair salons on standby I need a village to support my high maintenance hair just to replace her. I wish I can fly to her every month to get my hair done. She's a true pro!

This is an excellent salon! My experience is always great, they are clean, professional, and always on time. I get in and out, and my hair looks fabulous. Brenda does an amazing job, and really cares about the health of your hair. Her cuts work both for my curly natural hair and straight styles which is sometimes tough to find a stylist that can cut your hair to look great both ways. Thank you Mariposa! Would highly recommend.
