Metro Baptist Church

My husband and I visited this Church on Sunday, the 3rd of December 2017. It was our first visit to NYC. The welcome was very poor. Two people spoke to us, Scot and Roger who were sincere and warm in their welcome. Our grandson and his fiancee (an American) called in near the end of the service and nobody spoke to them. The singing was good and the lady on the piano was a gifted pianist - just lovely to hear her play. Scot gave a short sermon, he was inspiring and we wish that he could have spoken for longer. You, dear friends, are our brothers and sisters in Christ, we needed you to welcome us from the UK. God bless you all. Jean and Mike

The pastor did not have an understanding of the scripture in his preaching. He claimed the scriptures tell is our prayers must be short. He classified conservative Christians under one bucket and used a reasonably offensive description of this group (where apparently we are all bigots, homophobic, and racist). When speaking with him after and showing him scripture, he was unable to support his argument with one piece of scripture but was only able to argue we came from a different place. He pushed an agenda, but it wasn't from the Bible. He also called me honey, which he was embarrassed about. While I'm sure the was sweet, the purpose of the discussion was to discuss his sermon and how it was not in accordance with any scripture anywhere in the Bible. If you are looking for a church that pushes a personal agenda NOT from the Bible, go here. You'll love it. I will say the pastor was able to have a courteous and respectful discussion with me after the service, even though he was unable to source one bit of scripture or even one biblical principle in his response. Sorry pastor, you seem nice and the congregation was very nice, but based on the information provided in the sermon, you get a 1. Please get back to the Bible.
