Took the gelato making class with a friend. They try to get you involved as much as possible but all you really do is measure ingredients, mix, and sample. However, the workers were very friendly and allowed us to store the gelato at the store while we went out to eat dinner.
Gelato at Mia rocks! They have cool flavor combos. A small is more than enough to satisfy ones craving. My favorite flavor combo is Figs and Tequila. It's close to work so its really convenient for me to go often. They also have cool flavors like cap n crunch etc.
The gelato is completely average. My girlfriend and I sampled 5-6 flavors before we chose one. Neither one of us was impressed. I can't believe they found a way to make sugar+cream so...average. However staff was nice/helpful.
I visited this shop recently for the first time and I have a feeling it may not be the same place others have reviewed in the past. I agree with more recent reviewers that the gelato itself is underwhelming, the flavors are weak, and there aren't many options. Half the flavors were gone by 3pm. While nothing was particularly bad, there is much better gelato at the same price elsewhere in Manhattan.
Firstly, Jason was a really nice guy. Appreciate that. But that is where the compliments end. This is a very expensive class, I expected a lot. We were located in a basement under a hair salon. The recipe we made was not the same product that Mia makes. The class felt rushed. We basically just threw ingredients in a bowl and the instructor did the rest added the filling ingredients, made the gelato, packed it etc. AND CAUTION should be far clearer. If the product is travelling more than 30 minutes outside a freezer, it is ruined which ours was. This should be a VERY prominent warning for the class.
Came here for the gelato making class. It's two hours. The class is pretty easy and interactive because everyone is making the same batch of gelato at the same time. The best part is each person gets to take home 4 pints of gelato at the end of the class! The instructor was very passionate and knowledgeable about gelato. He covered everything from its history, the ingredients we used, the process to make gelato, to tips on identifying truly fresh gelato. Very educational! The gelato we made turned out really good. My friends who tried all raved about them. I bought a deal to take the class for two people at $99. Otherwise the class at regular price can be a little expensive $199. Either way I recommend this class, especially for any gelato fans out there. Unless you live close by, be sure to bring a cooler or insulated food storage bag to keep your precious gelato from melting on the way home. Finally the gelateria may look tiny from the outside but there are actually seating area at the back. The service staff was super friendly and very cool about offering samples. They make fresh gelato daily - so be sure to try some next time you are in the area!
Such a cool gelato place. The store is small and seats only aboiut 10. They offer a nice variety of flavors - ranging from the classics like pistachio, to more obscure ones like captain crunch which sounded so wrong but tasted so good. I noticed they also offer vegan/kosher certified sorbet. The staff here is very cheerful, friendly, and generous with flavor testing. The portion here is quite substantial too. A small serving can be comfortably shared by two. They also offer gelato and sorbet classes here, which makes a fun evening event and you leave with four pints of gelato you made
I'm Italian and love gelato :- This is a subpar gelato, bland flavors I tried a few and not creamy icy consistency. Beside they don't use gloves to serve you so they touched the cone :- There are much better places, Eataly is just few blocks away and have delicious gelato Hazelnut and Pistachio are amazing!!!
I booked a class for my girlfriend's present. She feel ill the evening before and I called Mia asking them to postpone the session for a week. Both times that I rang, no one picked up the phone. I then emailed and received a reply stating that no cancellations are allowed, but I could bring another guest. I quickly sent another reply explaining the circumstances and why I couldn't do that, but never heard back. $200 wasted. Thanks for being so understanding about the circumstances. Maybe I should have brought my sick girlfriend into your kitchen? I'm sure that would have been well received by everyone.
My review is just for the gelato I had here. These guys do gelato making classes which I have yet to attend. One day post lunch I was craving gelato so happened to check this place out. Tried the coconut flavor it was ok nothing exceptional.Staff was helpful. Hopefully will stop by soon to attend the gelato making classes.
