This has been the GREATEST meat shoppe in YEARS! I am like so many of you who don't buy meat/pork anywhere else! Veggies are fresh and yummy as well! The fresh baked goods are so tempting and the aroma is yummy too! Keep up the GREAT AWESOME WORK! AWESOME crew, I thank you ALL!
As always! Incredibly friendly, family oriented experience with excellent selections of fresh and prepared meats. Their grocery options are always expanding. Be sure to grab some hickory smoked bacon.... you'll not be disappointed! And be sure to call ahead for custom seasonal meats.
I am new to area. No more supermarket meat for me. Mike's is great! The store is clean, all the staff friendly and very helpful. Everything is fresh. For example I just bought their ground beef/hamburger. It had the flavor and texture I remember from the 60's & 70's and wasn't full of fat. The pork chops and steaks are fantastic too! Store also has fresh local eggs, milk and other groceries.
We drove over an hour and our first visit to this fine establishment. Wide variety of meats chicken, cheeses, steaks etc and the prices were amazing. Great friendly staff very helpful. Definitely worth the hour drive so will become a frequent flier.
Great local products. Beef from local farmers, bacon smoked on premises, homemade sausage, locally pickled eggs and local honey. Great local butcher shop. They even have a bacon club...they keep track and you get free bacon in six or seven trips. Staff was really friendly and helpful.
Ordered packer's brisket, Boston butt pork, bacon and plate ribs. Everything was awesome and prices were excellent. Of all the butchers I called, Mike delivered...and then some. Call in advance to let him know what you need and he'll hook you up. Would buy again in a heartbeat.
I am not at all impressed with their primitive business practices. I called last year after hearing that they offer custom smoking services. The woman on the phone was hesitant, and asked me if I was a customer. Strange question I thought, since I was trying to be one, but when I told her that I wanted some meat smoked she curtly informed me that their established customers come first. Well, how do I become an established customer if you won't let me, I thought. She reluctantly consented to accept my buisness. I let it go, knowing that everyone can have an off day, and realizing that Pittsfield isn't exactly a bastion of sophistication where social skills are developed to a high degree, so I took my seat at the back of the bus and brought my meat in for smoking. I left knowing that I was dealing with the typical backwoods attitude that I've run into many times before since moving to the area over 20 years ago. If you're not kinfolk or didn't grow up with the locals you are an outsider, and they do not hesitate in treating you like one, even if you are supporting their business! Fast foward to this year. I tried again, thinking that now I might have passed the test, and be welcomed now that they put me in my place and let me know where I stand in the hillbilly heirarchy. Wrong! The very helpful young lady in the shop had to call someone for "permission" to accept my business! Apparently she was talking to the same woman who I had the unpleasant experience with last year. I had to justify my request by telling them that they smoked meat for me in the past. Again, I was reluctantly allowed in. I asked for a completion date, which couldn't be given since the girl did not know how many other orders they had to work on. Understandable, and she did give me a ball park idea, which was completelty fine. So my order is ready a few weeks later, and they leave a voicemail informing me. Then I get another call a week later from Brenda, rudely informing me of the exact date and time down to the minute when they called previously, as though this were now some sort of legal proceeding. The message stated that I must pick up my order TODAY, or they will charge me an additioinal $25.00 storage fee. Well I don't owe Brenda or anyone else an explanation of the happenings in my life, or my work schedule, and I am actually human and do forget things every once in a while. The decent thing to do would have been a friendly reminder call, let alone inform me of their inflexible policies ahead of time. But no matter, Brenda can make her own decisions about how she wants to do business, and so can I. Mine is to go elsewhere from now on. I did call another place in Canterbury last year before I heard about Mike's, and could only go on a Saturday. They guy was very apologetic that they were having a big event that day with a lot of people, but they would get to me as soon as they could. No problem, that's all I ask for is to be treated decently and politely informed if there are any issues that I might need to know about. Brenda at Mike's Meat Shop could stand to learn that lesson. The final straw was that they had me make out my check to Brenda personally. So not only did she treat me rudely 3 times, I also had to participate in whatever tricky accounting scheme Brenda is pulling.
This place is awesome we do pigs every other year and he also smokes our pigs and I can honestly say that everything is always fabulous. We stopped on our way camping and we will definitely be stopping in our way back
I would LOVE to give this place a 5 Star rating because the meat and prices used to be phenomenal but fairly recently they've marked everything at least 50% up, which is a huge price jump. But other than that excellent meat, bread and products.
This is the place to go. From desserts and breads made locally to every kind of meat you could possibly want for your week night/end grill, you'll find it here. Owner and staff are friendly and helpful.
