Minato Japanese Restaurant

There are 3 questions I heard asked: aWhen you enter for lunch between 11:15-13:15, “did you to sign in? name and party size b Did you pay the parking meter? I don’t think there was any significance with a table of police eating nearby c Is there anything else we can get for you right away? The answer to this third question is typically “no” because you have received your food and are having a conversation with you party. That said I have to say the service was prompt and efficient. The decor was interesting kabuki masks and wal l of toys with ticket numbers requested. Also the colorful bowls placed on the neighbor tables by the manager/owner candy bowl? Special treat for regulars? kept me guessing and I saw the smiles that appeared with the bowls. It was fun to watch. Value for money = 5 stars. Ambience = 4 Service = 4. Quality and flavor of food = 3.

3.5 - 4STAR + GREAT n FRIENDY Services + FRESH, TASTY Sashimi + FRESH, STRONG Wasabi - Sashimi pieces are a bit TINY; NOT ENOUGH to satisfy one’s taste buds in a single bite - Teriyaki Chicken is disappointing; tastes like Teriyaki sauce was simply poured over the cooked chicken - Tempura Veggies n Shrimps are disappointing; LACKING aroma or simply taste PLAIN - Tea tastes a bit bland; diluted

You want authentic Japanese food then come here. Lunch specials with Miso soup, salad, rice, Chicken teriyaki get the spicy as the put ginger in it and it is amazing with two sides of choice I did the prawns which were the size of my hand and forearm and gyoza. Price is LESS than a Big Mac meal at McDonald's in San Jose and is wayyyy more tasty.

Really nice place to have a smooth and nice lunch/dinner. The owners are friendly and make sure that you are taken care of. The staff is very polite and don't get you the feeling of rushing to finish your meal, pay and leave. The place smells good and looks clean you can see how they disinfect the tables that are being vacated. For lunch, today I had: - Steamer basket of tofu and veggies include soup, salad, rice, and two dipping sauces - World-famous teriyaki spareribs include soup, salad, rice I appreciated the fact that the miso soup temperature was just right, and the speed with which they brought our food. My friend told me that the ribs were tender, with great flavor, and easy to handle. Good portion of my tofu and veggies and I loved the two dipping sauces, also, the rice had flavor, texture, and consistency.

It's a family restaurant. There was a wait time on a Saturday but if you come after 12:30pm, it should be fine. The food was good. A little snug inside but it's fine for us. The only downside during my visit, was when a person clearing up the tables around us with a cleaning spray. The smell interfered my meals. Otherwise, it's all good.

I am so disappointed in my recent experiences here at Minato. I have been coming here with my family since I was a child and after my experience today I will not be coming back. While the food is always great as are the prices, the customer service is not. The last THREE times I was here, the wife owner was extremely unpleasant and rude to me. Lacking any customer service skills. And while the husband is always so kind and always offers wonderful customer service, my experience today was just terrible. I walked in hoping to place an order to go and was abruptly told that all to go orders can only be placed over the phone. When I asked why I could not simply place an order to go while waiting at the register I was again abruptly told all orders have to be placed over the phone. To give some context, had I pulled out my phone and called the restaurant while still in the restaurant to place my to go order the same woman would have been the one to pick up the phone right in front of me and place my order right then and there. But instead she was extremely rude and unpleasant and offered no appropriate customer service. I have had similar experiences with her the last few times that I have come to Minato. It's a shame that this once wholesome family owned small business has soured so much and by the owner of all people! Having grown up coming here, I am so disappointed in how I was treated. I will never eat here again. So rude!!

Delicious and excellent service. Their hot tea, tempura and chicken gyoza are all excellent. They even give you a punch card for $10 for future purchase after dining there after so many times. Cannot wait to return!

A friendly family restaurant. My favorites are the steamed dishes, followed by the Donburi. Restaurant has not yet recovered from COVID-19 in terms of fully reopening the restaurant. A portion of the restaurant is stillbused for storage and order pickups. All the tired and worn-out signs are a sad reminder of the pandemic. Vegetarian options: Excellent vegetarian options. Steamed vegetables and tofu is my favorite.

Minato is our families go to restaurant forget-togethers and special occasions. We always seem to end up with too much to eat and every bite perfectly scrumptious. Eggplant, Tempura, Ribs, Steak and so much moreFood: 5/5

Really great bento box lunches, this place never disappoints. The service is always great and the owners are super friendly. For the price this place has to be one of the best lunch options in the downtown area.
