I'm a resident of Foggy Bottom and multiple times I have been the victim of assault and battery from the individuals who are serviced by Miriam's Kitchen. This morning 2/28/23 around 7:45 AM I was aggressively approached and spit on by an individual being serviced by Miriam's Kitchen. This is not the first physical attack to me. The GW police saw and chased the person down. It is unacceptable that residents of FB have to live under the stress and fear of attack at any moment. It is now my personal mission to spread awareness of the danger that this establishment brings to our community. I don't think the parents of the GW students are aware of the risk to their children because of this establishment and they should be made aware. There is a lack of security and residents, especially the ladies, in the neighborhood do not feel safe and I for one am being physically attached. Miriam's kitchen needs to be respectful of the community and take the safety and security of the residents seriously or they need to move to another location. They do not provide any security. I have requested that GW police remain in the area during those time and they have for several months now. But Miriam's Kitchen has not taken any steps to maintain the security and safety of the neighborhood.
Mon-Fri 7am-8am Breakfast 5pm-6pm Dinner Case management is only in the morning. Clothing options are great. Volunteers really try to be accommodating. Actual staff is willing to go above and beyond to support success. The kitchen staff are my favorite! Food options are . There is always a veggie option.
I have been volunteering at Miriam's Kitchen for the last 7 years as Sous Chef and Dining Room Captain and am committed and devoted to their mission and ministry of ending homelessness in the DMV and also feeding the homeless and hungry. I will be volunteering here forever. Also of note: all the food serves to the homeless guests of Miriam's Kitchen are made from scratch from ingredients provided locally by farmers, local markets and grocery stores, and so forth. Even the juice served is generally fresh. It's pretty much a completely foodie experience each and every time.
MINI-snack-size portion Eg. 1 spoon of applesauce = dessert? Condiments more than actual food! 2 STINGY girls caucasian and sous-chef always refuse to serve 'less measly' proper portion to 1st-timers when 1 almost closing, and 2 trays visibly have lots of extra leftovers. Seems they purposely stinge with MEAGER tiny portions, to reserve extra food for themselves, rather than their claimed non-profit mission to help the poor hungry! Even for-profits give more/proper portions near closing time if requested nicely.
I'm Blown Away by the good at this place is doing. Homeless fighting for human rights on DC streets for years, away these last 2 years, and back seeing the population in this place, people that have grown so much. It is quite extraordinary. Thank you for your work. Tho Amy and one other need to remember we clients are equal, not lesser, Souls, worthy of being treated with the same respect that they would show their boss's boss's boss, as the other staff do..
New: workers of white women and children rob and enslave, steal their information, benefits, checks, tax refunds, fake tax returns to get double refunds. ___________________________ a few days ago an employee or a relative from this church bought a computer on his tax returns for last year. : the food is delicious , but checks, documents, cards, letters are stolen..
Jennifer is the Best! Miriam is blessing to the NW community. They offer a variety of personal care items as well as food for those in need. 6 Stars
I have been coming here for years and have had no problems and have gotten much needed assistance.
I have been going here off and on as I am an advocate for the homeless long story short is I do think they want to help but only for short term as alot of their staff only have 6 month window and so they can't really help long term but for like one person who wanted to better themselves they seemed of no help toward that person but wanted that person to work with a different organization because their staff didn't know what or how to do what they needed to do. In my eyes, they are good at bouncing folks to other organizations. If you need food and or clothing I recommend but otherwise don't waste your time being there. Their art program is great.
Very helpful and good food and service
