Moe's Original Bar B Que

Have you ever loved a place for years then it went downhill? Then you keep going every 6-12 months to see if they recovered... for like 3-4 years? And it remained terrible. Well, for me, that's Moe's original bbq in Matthews. We all know I've given one star because I have no other choice... But, let's pretend I am giving 0.5 stars for the decor and location because that's amazing. Then the other 0.5 star is for the POTENTIAL that the menu has. Because honestly, the menu has been the same for years and the food used to be amazing. Cons: the service has been awful since the descent. That was the first thing to go and the most consistent problem. Usually it's the attitude. The staff has not cared for a while. Things will be missing, orders messed up, no apology. I promise there has been at LEAST one problem every single time for the past 8 visits. However, we went again today for the first time in 2 years and the food was bad. It tastes like they are using old oil. We observed two of the four staff tonight engaging in unsanitary practices. One lady wiping down the silver dishes they serve on with the same dirty rag as the trash can and counter. They serve food on these with paper laid over top. They did not go through a wash, just a dirty wipe down. Then a guy was actively eating/chewing over our take out containers as he packed/checked them. Sanitation score: 90.5. take that as you will. I have tried to be the loyal customer. I HATE leaving bad reviews - check my history. Downtown Matthews is amazing and we need this spot to be better.

The food was delicious with good portions and plenty selections of sides. The atmosphere is laid back. The banana pudding and cornbread is awesome. I also really liked their BBQ sauce.

I’ve been here 1 time before about 2 years ago and it was great. Went for dinner today and it was amazing. Quick and friendly service even though they were short staffed. The food came out at the perfect temperature and it was delicious. The jalapeño grits were out of this world as was the watermelon salsa. Chicken and street corn were good. Ribs and cornbread were also great.

If you are a sucka for some good BBQ like me, this place will not disappoint you. I had the smoked turkey B+ and my wife had the smoked wingsA+. All the sides were good. The cornbread was beyond awesome! I don't know when I will be down here again but when do it will visit Moe's!

Not the “Welcome to Moe’s” burrito place I thought it would be. It’s good Southern barbecue. Turkey sandwich was good, so was the mashed potatoes. They ran out of salad, so I had coleslaw. Order at the counter. Pay at the counter. Food delivered to you.

Awesome BBQ in downtown Matthews! Great wings, ribs,and Brunswick stew. Always has a good updated tap list with plenty of local NC brews. Plenty of room and usually a line getting take out. Great for lunch and dinner.

This location is way, wayyyyy, better than the Waxhaw location. Food is good. Employees are polite and friendly. Only drawback..... was this one area. Pic.The condiment/drink service area was congested at the end of the bar. Really cheesy and not designated. Even the shelf under the soda machine looked sloppy and dirty. And that whole area looked neglected and smelled of a dirty beer soaked bar rag.

Really good BBQ. Got family pack with pound and a half pulled pork, 3 sides, buns and the best corn bread. Brunswick stew was different, but good.

Great food. Love the pigs out front and the decor. Loved the atmosphere and music!!!! I had the greens and pork sandwich!!!!

Ribs are soft and fall off the bone. More spicy than smokey but I'm pretty sure that's the BBQ sauce. Kids loved the Mac and cheese and everyone loved the banana bread pudding.
