I've been to quite a few zoos in my travels, and Audubon Zoo stands out as one of the best. I was thoroughly impressed-- beautiful grounds and displays, a wide range of animals and habitats, friendly and informative staff members, and a good selection of visitor amenities. Each major section of the zoo makes you feel as if you were transported to a far flung destination where you can see animals in their natural habitats. Simply amazing! We can't wait for our next visit here!
Amazing zoo! Go right when it opens to see all the animals active! We have seen a lot of zoos and am so glad that we added this onto the trip. Our favorite was the orangutan babies!!!! Be aware that there is only food at the mail cafe. Just pack a lunch and water and you are fine.
Great size, spent 3 hours and didn't get to see it all. Very good well shaded play spots for the kids placed throughout the zoo. Great opportunities to take a break and catch some breath; it's very convenient. All concession stands throughout the park were closed, so get something at a shop inside even though it is pricey. All in all it is worth the price and a great location to visit whether on vacation or just passing through.
Fantastic place! Very large facility! You'll get your walking in, but there is just so much to see. Very nicely laid out and the exhibits were very well designed and placed. Many many many different animals there. I really liked the section about the bayou. I love it when zoo's have exhibits about local life and animals, especially in this case where its so unique to the rest of the country. It was amazing to see how well disguised the alligators were there. Many looked fake, or were completely hidden but they weren't!! Very family friendly zoo. Great place to check out!
I don't know where to begin. My wife and I have been to many bigger zoos in the country like the ones in San Diego, Columbus, Smithsonian National Zoo etc... We were left in awe of the Audubon Zoo and our experience here was the best one we've ever had! We went on a Monday and the zoo had little to almost no crowds. There were times where we sat viewing an enclosure for 30+ minutes until we saw someone else. We witness unique, funny and playful behavior from several of the animals including Elephants, Lions and Jaguars. The enclosures were very well maintained and some of the viewing areas were practically with the animals themselves. The vast majority of the animals were very active and it was obvious to us that they are very well taken care of. We can't stop talking about our experience to our friends and family and we hope to come back one day!
This place is not "just another zoo" and it's definitely worth a visit! I've never been as up close and personal with the animals before and the spacious enclosures are charmingly decorated - particularly in the Louisiana Swamp area. There are also a few places for children to get their wiggles out - multiple play structures, a hill to roll down on, and a water area to wade in. In addition to the animals, there are also numerous sculptures to enjoy. Overall it was just a really great experience.
Many of the birds were not out when we visited because of an ongoing bird flu concern. Weather was also colder for the area, so many animals were inside. Despite all of this, there were still many animals outside. It was also a treat seeing all of the little details throughout the zoo off the paths both fun and informational signs, themed areas, bronze/metal animal sculptures, etc.. I had a really fun time watching the baby Orangutang. Overall it was worth the time and money to visit, even in the winter early November. My 4 and 7 year old boys had a blast.
I haven't been to a zoo in years! This one came very highly recommended! One of the best zoos I have ever been to. It reminds me of something out of Indiana Jones. Amazing!! I would definitely recommend this to kids and adults! We would definitely go again!!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$21–30
One of the best zoos I've ever visited! There are a lot of animals not typically seen in zoos, as well as the usual ones. They also have a swamp area with alligators and animals/fish native to Louisiana swamps. Many of the exhibits have areas of swap that seem to be easily accessed by small children, so I'd be cautious there. But, it's also part of what made it such a wonderful experience. The landscaping and trees there are stunning. There's a bird area where you can walk through with the birds all around. It was beautiful too. The orangutans were so much fun to watch! There's a large habitat for them with lots of toys and things for them to interact with. It's a must see destination when visiting New Orleans.
This was such a fun visit. We ended up wandering around in our ponchos while it rained. The zoo offered tickets for another day but we were flying out that day. The staff was friendly and took a group photo for us. I would say that this is a good relaxing stop during a New Orleans vacation.
