I had a pair of boots, that has never been worn outside, in need of repair. They had been collecting dust in the back of my closet for the last few years, so I decided to try them on one day. That's when I noticed one of the heels had fallen off. So, I googled shoe repair nearby, and came across Navy Yard Valet Shoe Repair. Expecting good service for a shop so close to the Marine Barracks, they must do fine work. BIG MISTAKE! I brought the boots in and told the guy; I wanted the heel glued back on and secured. He said ok, took the boots in the back and starting hammering the heel back on with NAILS. The finished product was nothing to brag about, the heel was so misaligned I thought he had put a different heel on. It appeared to have become deformed during this process. There's noticeable gapping and most importantly NO GLUE! I deeply regret my decision, and I do not recommend this place if you expect good quality work.
If you are a person if color, do NOT give this place or business. As a matter of FACT, he will not accept your business. He is a RACIST! After a white woman with her 2 small children had a 20 minute conversation with no regard that I was waiting for service shoe repair he finally took her credit card and she left the store. When it was my turn he tried to over charge me for repairs then after he assessed the repairs AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $55 TO REPLACE 2 HEELS, he told me that I needed to give him a $30 CASH deposit. I told him that he took the white woman's credit card but you wont take mine. He walked away from me as if I didn't matter. I walked out then came back and asked him to show me the sign that says "CASH deposits on shoe repairs". Again, he walked away as if I were TRASH! I will gladly report this to the Better Business Bureau!
I have used this service for more then 20 years. I worked as a sales director for many years. I had a clothing expense account. Monthly I would spend anywhere from $200.00 - $300.00 on cleaners bills. While expensive they were the best. Now retired I don’t need there service as much. But I took a pair of my grandson purple brand jeans to patch a small hole. Took them in on the 7th to pick up on the 14th too long. On 14th they could not locate the pants and gave me the run around all day from 9:00am -3:00pm he said I don’t have the pants. I’ll call you!!!! I’m not sure I will ever get my pants without a fight! Are these new owners? This is not like the old navy yard cleaners! I can never use them again!!!!!!
They repaired, resoled, and reheeled a pair of Mexican hand-made cowboy boots. They're the 7th shop in DC I've asked to work on boots for me in the past 2 years. They're the 1st to do it right.
They will work with you to get what you need sooner then later even tho their very busy and dont need your money cayse they work with the military. But their Prices are crazy high, i wanted two pants fitted and sized and charged me over hundred dollars, more then what the pants are worth.
I have been going to Navy Yard Shoe Repair for over 20 years. I took my shoes in for repair and a new guy working behind the counter who calls himself Jerry asked for a cash deposit on repairing the heels on two pairs of shoes. I gave him a $20 cash deposit which he put in his pocket. The two pairs of heels cost $104. When I came back to retrieve my shoes he said he would only accept the $84 in cash and would not take Visa or MasterCard even if it was a debit card. I told him that even food trucks accept Visa and MasterCard and he continued to argue with me finally telling me to find another shoe shop if I didn't want to pay him cash for shoe repairs. I told him that I thought he was either evading paying taxes or skimming money off the top if he had partners. This shoe repair is right across from the 8th and I street Marine Barracks and I suspect this guy does the same with the Marines. He appears to be a scammer pocketing cash and either evading paying taxes or skimming off the top. Don't go to this guy unless you like dealing with a crook who will only take cash for some transactions while accepting Visa and MasterCard for other transactions.
UNAPPRECIATIVE, INCOMPETENT, UNACCOUNTABLE, RUDE. THEY WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!!! I picked up my dress suit from Navy Yard Valet about a month ago. Today I removed the plastic so I can wear it tomorrow to graduation. I discovered it lost shape and was never pressed. I brought it back, explained, and asked that it be pressed. The owner said it looks like it's been worn. I agreed, that's why I'm here. I paid for it to look clean and pressed. He said clothes don't leave his place that way and it couldn't happen. He then set my clothes aside and started helping another customer who came in after me. When he was done, he said he'll give me a 1/2 price discount to press it. I said I already paid for the service and that would be me paying 50% more. He went on a ramble about how he used to be a GS-14 federal employee and how he would have pressed my suit if I brought it back sooner. I told him that I brought it back as soon as I noticed and pointed out that the other customer just dropped of sweaters on a 90 degree day that she probably won't look at until October. I was treated like I was lying. Then he even said, you only came here once this year and once last year. I said it doesn't sound like he appreciates my business and he back-pedaled. Bottom line, all he had to say was "I'm sorry. This hasn't happened before but I'll look into it. We'll press the suit. Thank you for your business." Instead, I was insulted and expected to pay again. WHEN I PAY AGAIN, I'LL PAY SOMEONE WITH INTEGRITY. On a side note, when I dropped my clothes off, the clerk counted wrong. I came right back in to tell her there were 11 garments and not 9. She recounted and gave me a new ticket. They probably would have denied receiving my two sweaters if I didn't notice right away. Side note #2, when I was there last year, another customer was back for the 3rd time because Navy Yard Valet couldn't find a leather item that was sent out and the clerk was rude and dismissive to him. She kept taking customers in front of him and wouldn't search for the item. Ultimately he told her to stop taking other customers because he is next and could she please just look in the paper bags on the shelf and pointed. When she did, the 3rd one she checked, with attitude, was his item. I should never have given them a chance after seeing that! UNAPPRECIATIVE, INCOMPETENT, UNACCOUNTABLE, RUDE. THEY WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!!!
Only problems I had is when I paid for my shoes in full I came back and they charged me another $20. And if I'm right it will show on your ticket if I paid in full or just to a deposit payment just to put the clothes in, and the next issue was I asked the owner how long will it take to repair my be heels. When he informed me that he will give me a call to let me know when my shoes were prepared and ready for me to come pick up but unfortunately I had to call and ask when was my shoes going to be ready that's when I was informed that my shoes were already finished and ready for pickup.
Excellent service and wonderful staff here. I've used them to resize 14 suits and 10 trousers. They have competitive prices that are well worth the quality. I drive into D.C. just to go here.
