The therapy was the only good thing about this place and even then it wasn't all that great. The nurses were rude, they wouldn't respond to someone for hours on end Like what if someone is CHOKING? and there were multiple cases where my family member ended up soiling themselves because of these people not doing their jobs, walking right by my family member's room 10 times at LEAST. Unacceptable!!! DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE!!!
After reading the reviews of this facility and the response from the facility to these reviews and families experiences I am horrified that my mother is here. The therapists and nurses are wonderful however Michala her case worker is uncommunicative, lacks empathy, won’t answer our families questions and has no business dealing with patients and their families. My mother is paralyzed and has had some progress while being here and is being unsafely discharged despite the lack of proper equipment being at home and leaving my elderly father to care for her even though the insurance will still pay for her to undergo therapy. She will not answer the question of why she’s being discharged we have no wheel chair but luckily the physical therapist whose job it is not found us a manual chair even though my mom Can’t use it and we don’t have a ramp. Unfortunately this is the level of health care you can expect in Maine. Nothing like the health care here where you have a team of people and they communicate each step and there is a written care plan in place. If you want your family meme er to not be cared for and left in a dangerous situation this is the place to go. Can’t wait to see the response from the facility saying sorry for my experience and it has been sent to the appropriate parties …what a joke
Not a place for vulnerable patients. My wife was not fed properly. The day I picked her up she had two uneaten meals on her table and full bottles of ensure on a table out of her reach. When I spoke to her on the phone, she was frightened to speak for fear of angering the nursing staff. When I picked her up, she had barely been exposed to speech, occupational or physical therapy. Her room was filthy, her clothing stacked on a covered trash container. An other patient's articles of clothing were mixed on hers. 7 changes of clothes were packed in her bags. After a week, only two were used. On discharge her meds were wrong, prescriptions were not placed with the pharmacy of record. My wife had three case workers in 7 days, none of them paid much attention and none of them provided status unless repeatedly pressed. My wife was placed with Northern Light follow on care after discharge. Not given a choice. Nurses were very good. Occupational therapist came once, left us with a container of "therapy" putty for hand exercised, a packet of handouts and then never saw her again. Never saw the speech therapist.
The staff have no sense of urgency for evaluating and rehabilitating stroke patients. My Mom was admitted after having a stroke that affected her ability to speak. She had no other cognitive issues and no physical or occupational issues, but she was confined to a bed for almost 24 hrs until they could evaluate her. By the time we were allowed to see her in the afternoon, she was extremely upset. She had expected intensive speech therapy, and all she got was a 45 min evaluation. We got her discharged that day Friday and were told that she could start outpatient therapy on Monday. When we called on Monday, we were told that they forgot to submit her referral, so the therapy would be delayed. They finally scheduled an appointment for that Thursday, nearly a week after she had been discharged, and it turned out to be another evaluation it's absurd that they couldn't use the evaluation she just had as an in-patient. She ended up not being able to make that appointment because she was diagnosed with COVID-19 the day before. The out-patient facility has no ability whatsoever to conduct remote therapy, and they refused to provide us with at-home exercises. After 2 years of being in a pandemic, they are completely unprepared for the possibility that an out-patient gets ill. Now her first out-patient evaluation will be nearly a month after her stroke. Time is critical in the recovery process, and this facility's ineptitude is jeopardizing my Mom's chances at a full recovery. I could not be more disappointed and furious.
Don't know if this is the same rehab I spent 5 weeks in during the 1980's, but mine was next to Maine Medical. It was the best care I had ever experienced and I actually didn't want to leave when they said they had done all they could for me since my insurance was running out. Excellent care, excellent people.
At first I was thankful then I was told patient would be transferred to rehabilitation center closer to home then without notice patient was dropped of at home 5 hours away from Portland left on sidewalk where he somehow was supposed to be able to get up 2 flights of stairs with no help and he was not well enough to barely walk not to mention his ability to speak was affected and upper right side paralyzed so after numerous attempts to get up the stairs was unsuccessful in return injuries to falling don’t understand why he was sent him instead of a facility to recover so needless to say not only is the patient affected the family is struggling due to this facility having no consideration or following up with case plan
Husband had to be transported from NERH to doctors appt. I hadn't seen him in 2 weeks due to covid restrictions, but met him at doctors. They had him dressed in paper thin hospital johnny with thin blanket draped over his shoulders - no pants, no shirt, no jacket, no shoes. This was in Feb in Maine. He had clothing at NERH, including winter jacket. Appalling NERH would allow a patient to leave their facility with disheveled inappropriate clothing and not take the time to help him dress. This is level of patient care when family is not present. When he went to be discharged we discovered all of his clothing had been stolen. Everything from socks to jackets to sneakers. When I reported it staff did not seemed alarmed or even surprised. Therapists were good, but level of care when family is not around is unacceptable.
awesome doctors, PTs, and OTs all all top notch! Nursing Staff is again wicked awesome! if you want to recover, they will work hard to help you achieve that!!
Staff was wonderful and polite. They showed great patience with their patients. Good food & great results in recovery. Service animals were a great spirit builder & art projects done by patients were very enlightening, they should be displayed in shopping centers across the country. Overall a wonderful place, you can feel confident about having yourself or a loved one stay here.
I am very disappointed in the discharge planning of this facility. My son was discharged unsafley without needed equipment tp help him at home. He has a broken foot and fractured back. There was no consideration by discharging the discharging staff of the apartment he lives in. His apt is on the third floor with very long hallways to and from the elevator. The only equipment he was given was a back brace and Walker. They refused to give him a wheelchair, instead telling him he had to purchase one. He was unable to hop down the hallway to his apt with a walker and had to purchase crutches on his way home. I am so disappointed in the lack of compassion this staff had towards my sons needs. The social worker there could of at least listened to his requests and attempted to locate a donated wheel chair or let him borrow one. Shame on your social service staff and others involved in his discharge planning. You dropped the ball this time and sent a patient home unsafely.
