The New York Seibukan teaches traditional (Koryu) Japanese Sosuishi-ryu Jujutsu (created in the year 1650) and Okinawan Isshin-ryu Karate-do. ALL of our black belts are certified by the respective headquarters of each martial art in Fukuoka, Japan and Okinawa.
We also specialize in self defense. Students are taught techniques that are practical, simple and effective for real situations with which they may be confronted. Our classes consist of a well rounded training program.
However, our main objective is the perfection of oneself through both physical and mental development. As students learn the art of self defense, they acquire self confidence, serenity and the ability to concentrate.
Students at the New York Seibukan have a unique opportunity to study from someone who has mastered both methods of the martial arts taught at the New York Seibukan. That is, the art of the Okinawans--Karate--which they used to defend themselves against the art of the Samurai of Kyushu--Jujutsu. The Okinawans as well as the Samurai of Kyushu, would never have believed that both these arts would someday come together in the spirit of brotherhood and be practiced in the same Dojo (school), as is the case at the New York Seibukan.
