Newport Homecare provides top quality care through the great leadership who run this agency. As a professional consultant in home Care, it is a pleasure to see/work with a group of owners that take direct interest in the services they provide to their clients, families, hospitals, doctors and caregivers. I have witnessed the support they provide caregivers to assure they have the tools to do their work with quality and safety.
I was referred to this company a few weeks ago. I was sent a caregiver for my mom who lives in assisted living. My mother has dementia and needs help with walking with her rollator and basic cleaning chores since she is having some trouble walking and standing. My mother recently had some falls and I needed help as I was having eye surgeries and couldn’t be with her. The staff at Newport Home care who assessed my mother’s needs sent a caregiver who failed to do the basic chores that I asked to be done. I was able to visit my mom the day after the staff was with my mom for 6 hours and no chores were done. The staff did not go anywhere with my mom so what did she do all day? When I asked the staff about the fact that I really needed help with certain chores she actually lied and said she did them. I have pictures of dirty dishes and a filthy litter box that didn’t happen overnight. I asked the caregiver to take my mom to the doctor, the caregiver refused because my mom didn’t have a wheelchair and only a rollator. The caregiver came a second time and no chores were done. My mom reported that the caregiver was on her phone a lot. I asked the company to find me another caregiver when they told me the caregiver needed to switch her shift. Then I found out the caregiver had lunch and had my mom pay for it even though I told her my mom had dementia. The caregiver was texting and calling me about plenty of things like showing me bags of cat poop to show me she did the chores after I spoke to her supervisor but never bothered to ask if I would buy her a 15 dollar lunch. I would have paid for the lunch if she asked for approval. You don’t just have a client with dementia pay for your lunch. I asked for another caregiver. They sent me another caregiver who they said was their best. She came to be with my mom for 2 days after the agency changed dates on me numerous times. Then the caregiver called in sick the night before her visit with my mom. I was planning to have this caregiver help with two doctor appointments for my mom while I still can’t drive due to my eye surgeries. So I had to reschedule the appointments. Tonight at 4:00, I got a call from the agency to say the caregiver took other shifts and wouldn’t return and they have no replacements. I asked if my mother had done anything to be mean or difficult for the caregiver? They said, no. In summary, I have found this company extremely unreliable and the caregivers not responsible or reliable. The supervisors were responsive to me but while they can listen with empathy to my concerns , they had no caregivers to cover missed shifts. I am so sorry I even bothered with this company. Total waste of time and money for me since I had to pay for canceling doctor appointments not within 24 hours . Company did offer to reimburse me for lunch that caregiver charged to my mom’s room. I would not use this company again and would not recommend to others.
Love my employers!
