Nile Ethiopian Restaurant

I had a good experience here stir fried lamb with rosemary and peppers served in a clay pot. The bread was great, the spices were even, but it was a bit bland for me. Berbere is low on the heat scale for me, but probably meshes well for most mid-westerners. I think Ethiopian food is the perfect emerging food style for Eastern Iowa, my question is, why isn't there one in every city here? The atmosphere, lightly spiced dishes, sourdough flatbread and fun "eat with your hands" dynamic should have people pouring in.

The food and the service are consistently good. There are many combination options so that you can try multiple dishes each time you visit. The servings are generous and the seasonings are exotic. The only reason I didn't give them 5 starts is because the atmosphere is very casual. We eat here on a regular basis.

This is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Iowa City. (It is also the only Ethiopian Restaurant in Iowa City.) They serve all the dishes you would expect to find at an Ethiopian restaurant, and they are tasty. They only serve Kitfo on weekends, so if you're in the mood for some spicy raw beef, make sure to come then! Their sambusas are delicious. I can't pick a favorite dish... I recommend coming with a few friends and getting a combo platter so you can enjoy all the different flavors and spices!

I DREAM OF THIS PLACE AND THE FOOD IT SERVES WEEKLY. I am an omnivore, but I love getting the vegetarian sampler platter and going to town!! You should probably go there and make your belly happy. Right now. GO.

Not only was our food amazing but the owner was able to help us pick something we liked based on what type of spices and meat we liked. He was spot on! We were not sure what to order since this was our first experience of Ethiopian food 🥘. The restaurant was clean and very laid back. Good place that fits any occasion. He also owns a good Hookah bar “ Sultans hookah bar”. Nice place to relax after some good food.
