Wonderful experience! It’s one of the prettiest Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. Very peaceful ambience. The staff was very kind. Sashimi was fresh, cake tasted as good as it looked. Didn’t get a picture but their beef ramen was also delicious. Definitely will be coming back :
The food was amazing! The atmosphere was great and the staff very friendly. Simply a great gem in Montclair. Highly recommend the Exotic roll menu.
In this day and age, I wouldn't recommend impulsively going somewhere for sushi - this was our third stop in a frenetic 15-minute period of walking up to the doors of restaurants only to realize they were only processing to-go orders. In my experience, most sushi establishments are still super skittery about COVID, and the chances that the place you pick has sit-down dining right now is pretty much a coinflip. That's on us though - we were naughty and didn't do basic due diligence beforehand. My chum and I had lunch here yesterday. It's a spot we've been to before notably after an unsettling Nocturnal Animals screening a few years ago that led to some animated conversation about Amy Adams over some edamame for both sit-down and take-out, and it's been a solid, reliable destination. My go-to sushi restaurant for special rolls is Kenko Sushi in Lincoln Park, so it's a little unusual for me to venture beyond my comfort zone in that regard. We both usually end up going down the rabbit hole of exotic/special rolls, and this adventure was no exception. I went with the Godzilla Roll and the Verona Roll both $11.50. They were both very good, though the winner by a slight margin was probably the Godzilla Roll - I have a weakness for the fried ones, and I find that they hold together much more easily than "regular" rolls, which is helpful when the pieces require two bites instead of one. The Verona is solid - my chum got a Titanic Roll, which looked exactly the same from the outside but had shrimp instead of salmon within the roll. Was any of this mind-blowing, astounding sushi that I'd go out of my way to sample? No, but I don't think it needs to be anything more than a place you're comfortable popping into from time to time. The service was very good on the whole. Our food came out pretty quickly, and it seemed like they had some takeout orders to juggle simultaneously as well. The waitress was a little overaggressive in bussing our table and grabbing the check; I literally still had a final bite of sushi in my mouth when she swooped in to take the plate from under me. And after giving us the bill, she came back about a minute and half later to grab it and we had to quickly tell her that we hadn't even opened it to put payment in. It was pretty empty in there too, so it wasn't an issue of needing to turn over the tables. But honestly? I'd rather have too much service than too little these days. I tend to think of Montclair as a pretty overrated food town, but Nori is a solid contributor that provides a decent counterargument.
Best teriyaki and noodles I have had in years! I ordered the filet mignon with noodles, soup, and salad. Also got the fried bananas for dessert. Everything was delicious!
Nice place, food is yummy, salads are fresh, bento boxes are just right The atmosphere very Asian, which I like, specially the private room they have, I think that was very cool. Servers are very attentive and polite, it is nice and quite at lunch : we loved it !
The food was delicious and fresh, the place was clean, and the staff was very professional and caring.
Good portions, large sushi pcs. Fish looks fresh too
The take out rolls were good but not spectacular. It tasted fresh, but the rolls were small, which I expected for the $8 regular rolls but not the special ones. Maybe take out isn't where this place shines seems like eat-in customer reviews are quite high. I expected more from the 17 dollar King crab roll than 6 small pieces. I also paid extra for tobiko because I love it even though two of the rolls already were supposed to come with it, and there was a sparse amount on all of them. The side portion of veggie hibachi noodles was more generous than the sushi and had a nice amount of fresh veggies. Would try a hibachi dinner there sometime. I might try it again for eat-in sometime, but for take out will probably turn to others around town first. Vegetarian options: Veggie hibachi noodles were good-- lots of fresh veggies in it.
Great place, love the food fresh and tasty and the ambience gives you a very traditional vibe.Food: 5/5
Went on a Thursday at 9pm. The place was empty, nice and quiet. Quality of sushi was average. Staff was nice. Convenient public metered parking in back.
