Norman high school has high standards for themselves. They do not mind letting the students opinions go unheard. They believe that their decisions are for the best, so if you are wondering why i am saying this. One of the most motivational teachers in the school. The one who believed in the students when no one else did, was fired, because a rumor was spreading about the teacher. A false rumor, but the principal did not want to believe the students. Didn't want to listen. And after the teacher was fired, the principle had thr AUDACITY to talk to the students like nothing was wrong, and he was there for them if they needed to talk. I do not recommend this school, if you want a good school in oklahoma, go to Putnam city original. At least they have morals there. The principle and the administration caused this teacher to break down crying. He was the only reason some kids loved education. One of those kids, was me.

Class of '06 here. First off, this account is an alias and not my real name. So if you're looking through the yearbook you won't find me lol. I attended NHS for three of my four high school years and had no real complaints. I'm sure she is gone by now but Dr. Everidge was my favorite teacher ever!
Are there drugs and other illegal activities at this school? Absolutely. I promise you it is no different than 99.9% of other public schools in the nation. If you don't want your children around that then I suggest you homeschool them and remove all TVs, computers, phones, magazines, and books from your home. Then put your children into giant bubbles and never let them out of the house again.
On a more serious note.. This school prepared me just fine for college. I was one of those students who did not socialize very much and often walked to the public library down the street on my lunch hour. The teachers were great at their jobs and did everything they could to help me when needed. I got a 27 on my ACT at the beginning of my senior year without studying any extra for it or taking it more than once.
Would I send my own child here? Yes, if I still lived in Norman...assuming things haven't changed in the past 11 years.

As a parent that had 2 students transferring in, NHS has been over all a great school. My experience is that about 80% of the teachers do a great job on follow up and communication. We have only had one problem with a teacher in the math department when it came to grades and follow up. The counselor /advisors have been wonderful to work with and very, very helpful.

Very good teachers, counselors, and academic advisors. I went to this school for all four years of high school while participating in the orchestra every year. The band and orchestra are the best in the state and regularly make it to national competition. Norman High produces more National Merit Scholars than any other high school in the state, so if your child is gifted, he or she can get the best public education in the state.
Aside from the student who's actions caused critisism of the entire school, the school itself is a very good school. Norman High should not be generalised by one student's idioticy. It is very unfair to state a school encourages similar behavior by the actions of one student. This behavior was not encouraged to me or to my friends, and to assume this is unfair to us. We were encouraged to make good grades and go to college, which we did.
