For the past year, I have had a really great experience working with Colin. He does a great job understanding my goals as a musician and tailors lessons accordingly. Prior to working with Colin, I knew the basics of guitar from prior teachers & self-teaching. Now, I have much more confidence in my playing & my ability to use the guitar as a tool for composing and writing my own music. I would recommend him to anyone looking to up-level their guitar & musical skills!
Colin is an amazing guitar teacher. My lessons always feel fascinating and really productive. He is patient and super talented — an inspiration for a beginner like me! On top of that, he is a really clear communicator, both in terms of guitar concepts and lesson planning more broadly. Would highly recommend.
I’ve tried guitar lessons both in person and online over the last ten years or so, but kept running into the same issue of teachers not really properly assessing what my needs were. Colin has been an excellent teacher for that reason. He has given me structure to my practice, and is a firm believer of taking a long term approach to ensure not just memorization, but building skill sets. I am very grateful for him
Colin is both an amazing teacher and a great person. My weekly lesson is one of the highlights of my week, every week. By way of background, I'm a totally untrained guitar player and singer songwriter. I have enough dexterity and experience at this point to learn most songs, write guitar parts, do some soloing, etc. But I lack any knowledge of theory and overall organization of the instrument. What I like about Colin is that he has been very diligent in making sure that I am staying on top of writing assignments, scales and theory ideas which is what I really need and want to learn. I also appreciate that we spend a lot of time actually playing soloing over blues, trading parts on writing assignments, etc. Just the very basic theory points I've picked up in my first few months with Colin have helped my songwriting and musicianship tremendously and I haven't even scratched the surface of his knowledge. Colin is also a really cool guy with diverse music tastes. He's given me a number of references and ideas for my own music that have been super helpful. He won't give you "the answer" but he'll say something like "Check out Quincy Jones' arrangements on Michael Jackson vocal harmonies" that send me down awesome music rabbit holes and make me a more interested listener. Would highly recommend Colin to anyone looking to learn or improve their guitar playing and musicianship.
