The customer service here is hands down the worst. They dont care how long you have to wait because there's nothing you can do since they hold your vehicle. Always expect to spend at least an hour and a half just waiting to talk to someone. Best thing you can do is come with a copy of your registration and insurance so you dont have to extend your wait and have to go to your car to get the papers.
Worst place to be in the middle of a busy day. They do teach u a parking lesson the hard way. It’s such a chaotic mess in there just like any other city office of course. Long lines. Waiting. Waiting. waiting. But atleast if u have all your paperwork and payment in order they release ur car quick once u get to the front of the line. But the wait is no fun. The payment is no fun. $185/$250/$300 depending on your situation and $20 extra storage per night. If it’s a rental make sure u have ur rental agreement with you or it’s a huge hassle. Pay in cash or u will be charged like an extra $20. And the atm in the office charges like $5. Also don’t forget the parking ticket surprise for $115 when u pick up ur car at the end on top of all the bs already. Yes it’s lesson learned the hard way but what can u do
Note that the reason for the 1 star has nothing to do with the clerks, they are excellent at what they do. The problem here is severe mismanagement. When "customers" arrive with all the required paperwork, the process is pretty streamlined, however the vast majority of people coming here to get their cars do not have the required paperwork, thus the reason for the long lines. These people should be escorted out, and not permitted to be in line unless and until they have the required information. Expect to spend about an hour here 3 hours during the holidays.
I have been here for 2 hours. There were 4 people ahead of me. This place has such poor service. They have only one person working during there busiest time of day. We are charged a lot of money for poor service. Not to mention that it’s so poorly run they are putting all of us at risk during this pandemic. And why does the supervisor not have a mask on her face? After she heard me say something she put it on. I’ve been here 2 hours and now she put on her mask incredible
It’s rare that anyone wants to be at the tow pound. Some people come here everyday to work. Honestly I was lucky not to be in a dire situation when I came in. I had been planning to leave the city, but following a series of unfortunate and surprising events, my car was impounded. I had time off work. I was surprised, but not stressed about the circumstances, and had a pretty good customer service experience, despite having to come back multiple times. I doubt most people here to get their cars are as lucky, and it makes sense that they are upset when they talk to the employees. The employees get the brunt of a situation outside of their purviews. I think I had the best possible experience given the circumstances.
Listen. It sucks have your car towed. No body wants to be here. I understand my experience may not be typical but everything here was smooth and efficient. Initially I was leaving thinking I would have to produce copies of documents that were in my glove box but a woman at the gate let me know I would be able to get a pass to access them since the car was in my name. I did park illegally. It was my fault. Yes it sucks to have to fork out a bunch of money for it. Yes I was only away from my car for 25 minutes. But I accept the responsibility of such. Everyone at the impound was helpful and efficient in the world of the municipal ongoings all things considered.
My car got towed for being in a no standing zone after 10 pm. Missed it by two minutes. But, my fault there. I take 100% accountability and paid the $ 185 penalty without complaining. That being said, the people that work here are some of the most miserable human beings I have ever encountered. Completely unprofessional and rude. No interest in showing any courtesy. If you hate your government job that much, go find another job!
I guess my experience was a bit different from other reviewers. All agents / workers were professional and attentive, and I think that is enough. At the end of the day, you have done an illegal parking and you"ve come here to pay and retrieve your car. Yes, paying hundreds of dollars of fine is not a happy experience but obviously you should not expect a 5-star hotel experience here. It took about 40 minutes from the waiting line to retake my car, and about 20 minutes out of the 40 was wasted by a yelling person ahead of me, who claims he is a driver of a car even if he was not a registered owner of it turns out, his daughter was a legal owner and he needed to get back to bring her - the 20 minute delay has nothing to do with the quality of the service and I think it is the agent's duty to confirm the identity of the owner. All in all, I think this place serves its purpose and the process was easy and straightforward.
1st time I went with my husband was okay but today his car was towed because of someone who caught a flat next to him and didn’t know how to change the tires. My husband said they yelled at him he was there for 3 hours and people were being treated like animals. I opinion is they shouldn’t work for the city if you can’t properly do your job without being a slob. I’ve seen better service at a non city job.
1st time ever getting my car towed. I’m in total shock how a police department operation can run so reckless, unorganized and unsupervised. The place reeked of marijuana. The woman guards were rude and unprofessional. After providing the initial information, I was sent to a room to wait for an escort just to retrieve my insurance and registration. I waited there with a group of people for over an hour. They’re excuse was “the guard didn’t show up for work”. The entire process took me close to 2 hours. It’s truly sad that this is where my hard earned tax dollars are going. Thank you NYPD for such a horrible experience....paid for! P.s. make sure you’re not illegally parked in the 10036 zip code or you will experience this.
