Oahu Makerspace

About

We are a small collaboration of Makers who share a space in Kalihi

Story

Our goal is to bring hands-on experience building tangible projects to as many people as we can. Often, people face obstacles to building the projects that they yearn for. Maybe it is living in an apartment, where space is limited. Maybe it is living with a Homeowner’s Association, where projects are stifled. Often, the biggest obstacle is taking the first step and being introduced to the capabilities and mechanics of construction.

When I look at any product, the first thing that comes to mind is how it was made. From the smallest gadget, to the largest skyscraper, we can approach them all with the understanding that people made them. The people who made everything were not born with the ability to calculate, construct, compose, or theorize; they were all born naked and crying, just like the rest of us. So it then follows that learning is the innate ability and we can all learn what we need to produce great works. All we need is to find the direction that puts us on that path.

In addition to this innate ability, we also “stand on the shoulders of giants” (Sir Issac Newton). So much has happened over the last few centuries that all we need for the next breakthrough is a creative person with a new outlook for an old problem. We have the convenience of looking to history to provide us with both inspiration and cautionary examples. More recent advances in the DIY movement have brought tinkerers and inventors from sheds and basements, into classrooms, living rooms, and makerspaces.

So we welcome everyone. Whether you are a blank slate for design and construction, a hobbyist with some experience, or a crafter taking it to the next level. We are investing in your success. Please invest in ours.
