Great little brewery located next to the picturesque Cathedral Park in North Portland. Went there today for the Oktoberfest celebrations and was not disappointed. Great vibes, German beers and snacks such as pretzels and wursts. Having lived in Germany for a long time, this brewery for sure served as a nostalgic experience. Would recommend this to everyone looking for a relaxing time with good beer and German food.
I'm Not much for German beers as I am a Portlander by heart and enjoy a nice complex IPA, but I can say that these guys are fantastic! In the summer heat their German beers are perfect to cool you down. Their partnership with the Wursthaus makes for nice pairing. Get the taster tray and enjoy! They have a nice courtyard feel and the backdrop of the beautiful St. John's bridge.
This is a cool spot in northwest part of town. They take classic German and Czech style and brew them as craft beers. Crisp, clean, and refreshing. Pictured are their northwest pils and altbier. Quaint and rustic feeling taproom great for a chill night. It’s possible to rent out taproom for parties which is cool. Highly recommended.
I would love to support this place, but I just cannot justify the sky high prices. A vegan wurst with “curry” sauce and a single beer was $30 including tip. And that’s not even an entree dish which are $30+ each of any kind! It’s a brat on a plate with fries. “Curry” sauce was same as the curry ketchup at condiment station inside, but with more tomato paste added. That’s it. It was a single cut up wurst which tasted great btw, with some spiced tomato paste, and fries for $20. You have got to be kidding. That plate was worth $9, max. Are the fries good? Yes. But they’re fries. Guys, it’s counter service and you bus your own table. Price point is overall preposterous.
One of the best and most friendly non-IPA THANK GOODNESS breweries in the Portland area. If you like German style beer than Occidental is the brewery for you: Alt, Helles, Dunkle, Kölsch, Maibock and seasonal beers like their recent Steam beer. If you are tired of the over hyped over IPA bitter mess that the NW calls beer, then you are ready for Occidental!
Beer was tasty! I had the Maibock which only came in a bottle. They have it on tap for a short time each year. The beer was fresh, and packed some punch. It was also very camera friendly!!
Shuffleboard table is great. Good music on the stereo. Nice bartender. Really bummed that the wurst kitchen was closed.
On a cool Nov Saturday evening, this spot is warm, parking wasn’t hard to find and the staff was so friendly. Dark beer is their Lucubrator and the lighter one is their Rauch Helles.
Really well executed German style beers. Split a tasting flight with my husband and we enjoyed them all. The staff was extremely kind and welcoming. Would recommend!
The brewery specializes in German style beer and they do it very well. The venue is on the more intimate side but had enough seating. Very cool place.
