Wife and I went to the Old Cowtown Museum on a Friday morning. It wasn't busy at all. We were able to explore everything at our own pace which took quite a while and every minute of it was fascinating. This museum was right up our alley and we were like kids at Disneyland at Old Cowtown. We can't wait to come back again.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
This is a gem! What an incredible journey back in time. It this 1800 town was so amazing. It was 102°the day we went so we thought the kids would not want to stay long. We were there 2 hours and they all wanted to stay longer. Take a picnic and make it a day. It's well worth the time and money. Kids ages 5,8, 10,11,13,18
Loved it. Having only ever seen old west towns in the movies, it was awesome to experience one "in the flesh," so to speak. Most buildings were accessible and displays seemed authentic. Friendly staff, too. Combined with the Wichita Art Museum, which is just across the street, an excellent afternoon.
This was a free event we were allowed to walk the property freely and take our time going through each and every crack and crevice that we wanted to we were allowed to go inside of actual houses actual businesses and some of them we could travel all through the building upstairs downstairs we could enter rooms and get the full experience of what the times were like back then and also get a good look at our Midwest history. There was also a live performance gun show that we all enjoyed there's food and beverages inside of one of the old diners so you can also get a dining experience and actually eat inside of the old diner oh yeah I definitely suggest checking it out.
Excellent! If you enjoy history around western towns and cowboys then this is a fun place to visit and step back in time. There is a lot of history and it’s fun to imagine yourself in the place as you walk though it and how things use to be.
PSA: Sundays are free admission. You could easily spend/kill a couple hours here, as you explore and walk through the old town and each building. On a hot day, it’s really hot out walking around but most of the buildings do have AC in them which is a nice reprieve. The Saloon does have drinks and snacks, so if need a break or refreshment. Would recommend visiting if in town.
We came to Kansas for a getaway trip and I found The Old Cowtown Museum and knew I had to go! The staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to our questions about the history. This is an experience that I’ve never had before considering you can walk through the houses and buildings, and there was a history for every single building or area of the park. We were the only two people in the park in the middle of the day on a Tuesday and the staff still put on the gun fight show just for us. It definitely made our experience feel special. They really do care about the preservation and history of the museum. If you love to learn about history and want an interactive experience, this place is a go to!!
A lot happening there today. I've been on a weekday and this was much better. They had vendors there and the saloon was serving food and drinks. There was also a shoot out reenactment. Fun family day.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
I love going here - learning and seeing history is always great to do! It's a neat old town with some original buildings that were moved into their property. There are always actors out and about through the town. I went this year for their Halloween weekend, and hope to return for their Christmas!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$1–5
The Old Cowtown Museum was a great experience for my family and I! We really enjoyed viewing and learning about the architecture and lifestyle of the the American west. The collection of antique furniture and antiquities was exquisite. The staff was real friendly. They have two gun fights a day. We made it there for the second one and after finding out about my daughter's birthday, they all wished her a happy birthday and gave her a gift! They also have a blacksmith that comes and makes tools and knives that you can stick around a watch. As some of my kids get older, I can definitely see us coming back!
