I'm writing this review because of an incident that I saw happen in the store. Afterwards I went home and looked up store reviews and saw that all people had to say was how rude the staff is and that they rip people off. I can personally say that this isn't true! For one, the staff is very helpful and friendly. They always answer any question I have and even if they are unsure, the look up the answer for me. Once upon a child is my favorite place to buy my kids clothes! I have 3 kids and each one of them is extremely picky with their clothes. Every time we go to Once upon a child they have awesome clothes for all 3 of my Children. Very rarely do I find myself going to an actually store and paying full price for something that I couldn't find at Once Upon a Child. Not only are their prices cheap, they have a text club, email club, and discount card for more savings! I also sell to them at least once a year. I don't get anywhere near what I paid in store for the clothes and toys and I probably could get more money out of a yard sale but the hassle isn't worth it to me. They are SUPER picky but thats why they have such a great selection! The incident I'm referring to was a customer not happy with what they were offered and getting very upset with the staff. A lot of the staff is young but they handled the situation better than this grown women. Being my nosey self, I glanced at what the woman brought in to see why she was so upset and I could see she brought her things in a ripped trash bag and nothing was folded. It looked like dirty laundry. No wonder they didn't take a ton and I'm glad they didn't because I wouldn't want to buy anything like that for my kids! I understood why she was upset because sometimes I myself go there expecting more money than they offer and it can be frustrating but that was not a reason For her to act that way. The staff handled the situation very well and calmly explained to her why they didn't take more and that they don't choose the prices. I felt Bad for the workers. Like I said, they were mainly teenagers. Because of all that, I felt like I needed to write a nice review to tell the store what a great job they are doing!
I've read the reviews for this location and I have to be honest, I was a little hesitant to visit this store. Note: this location is the closest to my home with a 40 min drive, so I didn't have much selection. However, when I arrived for the first time I was pleased, yet saddened and embarrassed bc I had already judged them as being rude just from what others said. Something I teach my children NOT to do. I've now had 2 very pleasant experiences with this store. The girls even offered to help carry my boxes to/from my vehicle. After 2 successful trips here I've come to wonder if these reviews are really worth posting and reading? I feel they should stop all postings of reviews for second-hand stores. Also, your first attitude the first step in the store sets the vibe...walk in smiling and pleasant and that will transfer to the employees attitudes and they too will be pleasantly happy towards you. After all, Smiles ARE Contagious!
The staff here is horrible!! The manager is extreamly rude. They offer African American customers penny’s for their items, while the white customers are giving top dollar for there items. The little boy section smells like urine!! And a lot of there clothes are stained. My daughter took in brand new clothes that my grandson never worn she was told that they were stained and not in good condition. THEY WHERE BRAND NEW!!! The concept of this store is good for mothers, but this staff is racist and unprofessional .
I have mixed feelings about this place. They have a sister store in Dover, that one was much more organized and helpful. I brought a tub full of never worn, or gently worn boy items. I walked around picked out a few things. They had a mega clearance sale which was nice. But when I returned to he counter, not only was the women snappy, but they declined to take any of it. I like this store but hire someone to organize at night, and maybe a kinder staff. Also maybe ones that dont dress in booty shorts and crop tops. Unprofessional.
I had an excellent experience with the staff at this location yesterday. I came looking for an automatic swing, and the staff was fabulous. They helped me compare items, tested them for me and offered suggestions based on their knowledge and experience, often pointing out things I hadnt thought of. I bought a few larger items and they made sure to show me how to take them apart and reassemble them, and then took them to my car for me. This store always has a great selection, and their prices are very fair! I highly recommend this store for any baby needs, skip the pricey big box stores and check here first. Thanks ladies!
Same as most of the other reviews. They give you pennies for high end clothing that's barely worn or with tags. The young man that's always working is the rudest. They are definitely not associated with the once upon a child in Dover. Those ladies are very nice and give you a fair price for your items. My last time coming to this location..wonder if the owner knows?
I went there on a Saturday around 4:30, upon arriving they informed me they’d reached their cash limit. I agreed to a store credit since I don’t really come to the area often. So I brought with me a lot of clothes and they only picked 10 items out of a box full, so I just am wondering what is the criteria of them picking through these clothes, because I’d say 90/100% of the clothes I brought with me were unmarked, unblemished, and in almost excellent condition, where as I walked around the store and a lot of their items I couldn’t even see the tag inside the shirt, so I guess to say I was better of donating to the Goodwill. They charge $5.50 for a shirt whose tag you can’t see or tell what size it is.
I want to like this place, but it gives me anxiety whenever I try to shop here. I realize this is a consignment shop and not a retail clothing outlet, but the clothing organization is impossible. Sizes are not accurately placed in the sections. 6-12 months is not the same as 6 months. And I shouldn't find that size in both the 6 month section and the 12 month section. Additionally, I took an unworn, Like New condition, 12mos, winter snow suit in to sell. Columbia brand, I paid $100 for the set. I was offered $6. I'd rather give it away to someone who needs it. I have no desire to ever shop here again.
My DIL and I went to the store today and bought a lot of clothing for my granddaughter, her niece. My daughter says the prices were high for a thrift/consignment store. I don't know. The clothes were either new or in excellent shape. The young women were helpful. The only thing that worries me is I have to take the clothes up to Philly for my granddaughter and if they are not the right size, the store gives only ONE WEEK for returns with no exceptions. I'm going up just so the baby can try them on. I bought too much to waste the money. HOnestly, if you are going to give up a $100 coat or outfit for $5, why do that? Isn't it better to get the tax deduction? My two cents. The clothes were adorable.
I went here this weekend and I wished I hadn't. This place is a joke. The employees were rude and didn't seem professional. I wished I had did a little better research before I took my children's things in. Which were all in great condition. I came in with a basket of both girl and boy clothes and two big bags of toys. They only took a few things and well I learned my lesson. You will never get my business again. It would just be better to go donate at a good will. Not to mention I washed very single piece of clothing and they all were in good condition and they took none of the pieces. I was very upset after I lefted. I will never go again!
