Founded in 1989, Oregon Tradeswomen helps to transform lives by building community and economic independence through empowerment, training, career education, advocacy, and leadership development in the skilled trades.
OTI’s programs and activities include:
Portland Pathways to Success: Provides women seeking trades careers with individualized career counseling, employment services, and education, including our free, seven-week state-certified Trades and Apprenticeship Career (TAC) Class, while assisting industry employers with reaching qualified, motivated female candidates.
Building Girls: Encourages young women in middle and high school to view trades careers as exciting, viable and rewarding through positive skills coaching, exposure to female role models, career pathways guidance and supervised hands-on construction experiences, as well as fun and practical math skill-building activities. These activities are carried out through an annual Building Girls Summer Camp, Building Girls Work Crew, and workshops with select schools and youth-serving organizations.
Tradeswomen Organized for Outreach, Leadership and Support (TOOLS): Builds the leadership skills of tradeswomen to advocate for quality, safe, and equitable workplaces and communities. Holds quarterly networking and support meetings for members of OTI, for women in the trades, and those about to enter the trades.
The Women in Trades Career Fair: The Women in Trades Career Fair is an annual event produced by Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. which encourages women and girls to explore high-paying, high-skilled careers in the building, mechanical, electrical and utility trades. The Fair provides opportunities for participants to meet employers, apprenticeship training programs, and tradeswomen role models through interactive, hands-on workshops and exhibits.
