Orphans Exchange Thrift Store

About

We are a faith-based non profit organization. Proceeds from Orphan's Exchange Thrift Store help support various orphanages around the world.

Story

There are an estimated 200 million orphans in the world waiting for someone to help them. It is going to take a lot of us.
Orphans Exchange Thrift Store was prayerfully established under Friends of The Fatherless, a division of a New Mexico 501c3 Non-Profit Corporation.
Those of us in the Friends of The Fatherless organization consider it an honor and a blessing to serve abandoned children and to bring public awareness to the massive plight of those unreached kids; giving them little other hope.
Orphans Exchange Thrift Store is in theory owned by the orphaned (and otherwise orphaned children) of this world. The monies produced are in turn "exchanged" to provide for the needs of the orphaned child through one or more of the following:
~ Clothing
~ Food
~ Safe and comfortable dwellings
~ Medical, dental, and eye care
~ Quality Education

Just to name a few of the ways; but most importantly the loving care and structure they receive.

*Mission Statement *

Friends of the Fatherless & Orphans Exchange Thrift Store

Our misson is to meet the needs of children without parents, to alleviate their burdens including poverty and exploitation and to enhance their lives by employing God's love and providence, through fathful actions, financial giving,
and regular heartfelt prayer. Our hope is that they would be encouraged to live out their adult lives with outstanding character, loyal
citizenship, a high standard of work ethic, and an inner passion for finding God's purpose for their lives.

*Volunteers brings our mission greater results!*

For every hour a volunteer serves at Orphans Exchange it is approximately 3 days a child can be rescued from the streets into a loving and caring home
.
We believe that through the commitment of volunteers; we can establish an army passionately committed to the mission of bringing HOPE TO ABANDONED CHILDREN!

I’m a frequent shopper at the store when I have extra money. I start a new job today and need a uniform. I went into the store to get 1 and kindly asked if I could have the scrub set until I got paid. I was told “ we can’t give stuff away”. Stuff that was given to you to help people in need. Like me this morning needing help with 1 uniform to start a job.
Found some cool treasures. Place is very clean and well organized. Some pricey stuff. But what bothered me the most, was how the workers treated some of the elderly ladies. Some even expressed concern having to attend a meeting because they were going to be yelled at. Totally unacceptable. These were senior citizen ladies who did not deserve this. Very sad.
Has some ok stuff sometimes. Claims to have 50% off "sales" every day. Which basically translates to everything being marked up anywhere from %75-%200 seeing as this is a thrift store where all your merchandise is donated has a good selection of furniture and a bit of clothing, lots of odds and ends. It's fairly well organized as far as thrift shops go. I think they are also pricing things like it's eBay and not a thrift store in Albuquerque. I found a reasonable serger for $150 $75 but the green sewing machine, they wanted $600 $300...
I bought this mahogany chest from orphans exchange , I got a great price on it ,it was delivered to my house the people who came out were friendly ,she sent more than enough people to get the job done I enjoy shopping there and I would recommend this place anyone who was looking for second hand furniture, and a little bit of everything else go and check this place out, great prices and wonderful people to do business with. Thanks for being fair KEVIN
I get that this place is probably working for a good cause, but they will raise the price on your items at the cash register. Even though all items were clearly marked, and boast that they have daily sales... they'll say it's marked wrong and then raise the price on you. I wouldn't waste your time here.
The people here are so nice and they have a great selection. The prices do seem high if you don't realize everything is always 50% off. I've definitely shopped cheaper places but I've noticed that the people at Orphans Exchange take extra care to put all the parts of items together, even taping them together when necessary, especially with children's toys. I appreciate that service enough to pay a tiny bit more to shop here.
Used to be a great place for bargain buys, the prices have skyrocketed, not much savings here. Inventory shows that the merchandise is not moving.
My three year old daughter and I went over to buy boxes because we are moving. My three year old need it to use the restroom really bad so I asked the owner where the restroom was and she said that we could not use the restroom. I told her it was for my daughter and that she needs it really bad. She didn’t let a 3 year old little girl go use the restroom. I will not be doing Business here any longer.
Stood around outside for 15 minutes. Door was locked when the sign states the business is open. Lost my business.
From the moment we parked we were disappointed in this shop. Right along the north wall is graffiti that says "Worst Thrift Shop". We had a chuckle about it and figured it couldn't be that bad. And then we walked in. $10 for a used coffee mug. $10 for a wine glass. $10 for a plate. For $30 I can buy a whole set of dishes brand new. They have this really sketchy "sale" every day so that the prices are slashes to 50% off, but $5 for a used mug is still too much, and to have this "sale" every day is false advertising. We laughed and laughed about how this really could be the worst thrift shop in ABQ. The staff was REALLY rude, too. I saw the lady at the counter completely ignoring a woman who was standing there saying "Excuse me, how much is that antenna up there?" We were just walking out when she answered "$50" and then we laughed some more and went somewhere else to shop!
