JOB SEEKERS
They keep removing this post because they know it's true!
You will see an ad on Craigslist pop up several times throughout the year for a Data Entry Clerk (Occasionally a billing clerk) for a large mental health practice on the waterfront in Burlington. Do yourself a favor and AVOID at all costs.
The billing office at Otter Creek/Matrix and this place, in general, is a litany of petty insults, vindictive behavior, and angry recriminations. They will discriminate against you, bully you, retaliate against you and you will end up in the most hostile working environment you’ve ever experienced in your life. It’s not worth your time, sanity or the little amount of $ they pay. There’s a high turnover rate for a reason. The ones who stay are the problem. You have Kathy, a marble-mouthed, 70-year-old woman who thrives on drama. She will gossip about you behind your back, create problems with management, she will lie, bully, and overall is an atrocious, unpleasant human being. She’s incompetent, a know-it-all, angry alcoholic and when she finally starts making your life miserable (and she will), don’t bother trying to stand up for yourself – it’ll be turned around on you, you’ll be blamed and made to feel responsible for trying to go through the proper channels. Her sidekick, Nikki, is another inexperienced member of the trailer trash brigade. She is lazy and nothing more than a windbag who will be on social media, snap chatting her relatives while on the company’s dime. Protip: Walmart sells other things besides animal printed shirts and leggings. It’s ok to venture out of your comfort zone. The 90’s are over.
Some of the clinicians will engage in gossip with the billing office staff. Kathy has used homophobic epithets to describe one of her providers, Tom. The intake coordinator, Carolyn, is another awful human being. She’s not part of the billing staff but is always in the office stirring up trouble with Kathy. She should utilize the resources at Matrix and get help for her Cocaine habit.
Why does this happen? Poor management. Karen, the billing supervisor, is inept, has no backbone, and is unqualified to manage people. She was hired by the former manager 15 years ago because she had the right last name and through an inappropriate sexual relationship with the owner, has made her way to where she is now. Her ‘leadership’ has created a culture of dysfunctional interpersonal dynamics. These dynamics play out in several ways: inequity, unaddressed conflict, harassment and a general lack of communication. This will never change. It’s a waste of your time. She needs to familiarize herself with what defamation of character means. If you quit or are fired and a new employer calls for verification of employment, she will trash talk you too. She is no better than the other two dimwits.
There are better companies in the city that will respect your time, your ideas and value what you bring to the table. Seriously, save yourself a headache and keep looking.

This was a bad place to get help Beth Engelberth was a joke and very unprofessional. I guess that is what you get when you work with an overweight judgemental shrink who has no respect for her clients. The staff in their is a joke and are all obtuse around the waste. They did more harm than good. They really are a waste of your time. The help I needed is all the way in Seattle so that is where I moved to get the help I needed. Vermont has no real system in place to help people. This place was awful and the services were too.

Everyone has a therapist they feel comfortable with. It will not be the same person for everyone. I've found a therapist that seems to understand me. I hope you do too.

I started out liking Otter Creek, but then My sessions were terminated by one of their therapists without warning or a transition period. I was left without help and no answers as to why the therapist would just drop me like that. I have since then suffered from severe depressive episodes and mistrust towards therapy/therapists. My therapist there did more damage to me than help.
