Wonderful neighborhood spot! I have stopped in several times with delightful results. The food here is amazing; they always have fresh soup, good bread and an amazing hazelnut coffeecake! I also enjoyed their hot chocolate made with real chocolate and the poached eggs on toast. They are open til 4pm now so come get a taste!
I stopped into Oui Presse on a whim as I was passing by on Hawthorne. The shop looked lovely on the outside and I enjoy trying new coffee shops. The young lady at the counter was friendly and I attempted to order the toast with butter and jam on the menu. She informed me the baguettes for this had not arrived yet so I ordered the PB and J Royale instead. I was maxed out on coffee already so I just ordered the sandwich. She made the sandwich herself and I poured a glass of water and sat down. There was a man sitting at the corner table by the bathroom who was walking behind the counter and back to the table a few times, who I thought may be the owner. This gave me a weird feeling as the shop became a bit busier and the young lady helped all the customers while the man was looking at his phone and occasionally speaking to her while she helped all the customers. I ate my sandwich and drank a few glasses of water. The sandwich itself was not much more than a PBJ sandwich. I could not figure out what made it a royale and I didn't ask. I can see an article online that describes this sandwich and I started laughing. It tasted good but was a bit overpriced at $8. Picture included. On the way out I tried to use their restroom but it was not in good condition and was out of multiple items. I bet the coffee is very good considering their excellent rating. They also have some cool magazines for purchase.
Super friendly staff and fantastic atmosphere! This place has a ton of potential and I'm eager to try it out again sometime in the future. Stopped by here for a super quick tea THEY HAVE PG TIPS!!! and coffee cake to go. I was impressed by the menu and for sure need to try out a few more items for my next visit. The coffee cake tasted a little off to me, not super sweet/too much baking power? I'm frustrated that I can't give more specific feedback. I'm wondering if this batch was a little bit wonky due to the crazy heat we've had the past couple days. I'm more than willing to give this place another try though- might even update this rating as well. Worth a visit, maybe avoid the coffee cake on hot days?
Went to place for eight years and just moved out of the city. I won't miss much about Portland, but the owner of this shop is lovely, the manager rocks and makes killer soups even if you go in in the morning for coffee, grab soup to go and dinner is done. Really good coffee too.Food: 5/5
Very good service. Even though there were a lot people in line, the single person working on Christmas day, thank you! made sure to take all orders, and make them, as quickly as possible while also doing a great job at it. The PBJ was great, and so was the hot chocolate.
I’ve never closed my eyes while sipping hot chocolate like the main character in a movie… but today I did. The smell of fresh donuts boiling outside, watching crows chatter on the telephone wires, and staring out at the world through the soft glow of mason jar lights. Whatever’s going on in your life, it doesn’t matter when you’re here…
I love this place for the coffee and tea selection. It is great for a rainy day or a sunny one. Every treat that I've had here is also great. Try the golden milk.
Best oatmeal in the universe: and wonderful people, service, ambience and coffee! Parking: Street parking free
Enjoyed some delicious hazelnut espresso cake, very well made/great taste and a hazelnut latte which was also good. I usually prefer a more modern updated place but this was a 'shabby chic' more vintage-y type of cafe so I liked the product not so much the space.
Try a bite of their pistachio cake with a sip of their latte. Decadent, creamy frosting, and thick, textured cake. The flavor is subtle and delicious on its own, but comes to life with Oui Presse’s coffee.
