Our Daily Bread

Excellent small health food grocery store with a great deli lunch counter, mostly vegetarian, lots of vegan options. Daily special is usually good and either vegan or easily veganizable.

Wonderful little shop with the freshest bread, organic vegetables and fruit, and tons of great hippie food. The adjoining cafe has the best smoothes in the city, barring the ones I make myself at home, as well as an excellent array of sandwiches and salads. I would visit more often, but the location is somewhat out of the way for me.

ALL of the staff are so polite and helpful. They carry lots of local stuff and plenty of things that can only be found at this location in Baton Rouge.

They have a great selection of supplements, organic food, and fresh-baked items. The staff seems knowledgeable about the products, at least for the few questions I had. If there is a hard-to-find vitamin, supplement, juice, etc. that you are trying to locate, start here. It's not a 'bargain store' though.

My brother visited this place yesterday a.m. He's eaten there several times in the past & never had an encounter such as this one. He was the only customer inside of this establishment at the time his order was placed (Turkey & Swiss sandwich). Afterwards, two other men enter and placed their order which was received prior to his. Another lady entered the business, placed her order, same as my brother's (minus the lettuce, but w/ wheat bread). She too, also received her order prior to my brothers. We are in no way prejudice/racist, but it was very transparent that the individual(s) providing service to my brother was. What did the three individuals receiving service prior to my brother have in common? They were all Caucasian; my brother African American. I am well aware that we live in a society where many people try to play the race card, but in this matter, this certainly had to be the case. Not only did he have to wait 18 mins. for his sandwich, but he also had to wait until other customers arriving after him were served. This was completely ABSURD! Despite the color of my brother's skin or the other customers, at the end of the day, and with each and every transaction, the money is the same!!!
