I went to the Art and Apples Festival thinking it was going to be a wonderful way of spending a few hours only to discover that dogs are not allowed in the park on special events. I do not understand the logic of this policy and certainly do not agree with the written statement that it is for the good of the dog because there will be many people. Dog owners are not irresponsible people. I would never take my dog anywhere where I felt he or anyone around could be unsafe. I would encourage anyone who made this policy to look at what other countries are doing. Italy and other countries in Europe have completely changed their policy on pets allowing them everywhere, including restaurants!. This was implemented a few years ago and the results are all positive. Businesses are happy because more people are going out with their dogs instead of staying home, families are happy because all members are included, and the dogs learn quickly how to behave in public much like a young child does when taken out in public, and we all know that the first time a child goes to an event is not always an enjoyable situation for anyone around...are we going to ban children next?. In this era of inclusivity and belonging, shouldn't every member of a family be allowed to enjoy an event together?
We enjoyed the Arts & Apples Festival previous years, and we would have loved to attend this year. Unfortunately, they don't allow dogs in the public park. Not even a puppy chihuahua that would bring a smile to most. And their reasoning is false and condescending, claiming: "While we’d love to meet your furry friend some other time..." and "...a crowd of 60,000-80,000 people each year- that is a lot of eyes looking up at beautiful artwork and live music and not paying attention to your four-legged friend down on the ground." The first seems unlikely; the second is patronizing. If they think so lowly of the public that they assume they can't control where they walk or lead their pet, why allow small children most of whom would have loved to see that puppy.
I loved the Art and Apples Festival. The Kids Zone was exceptional with the solar system theme. There were so many great artists. One of the best festivals of the year.
I attended the 2023 Fair this year, and I gotta say the art exhibition was fantastic along with the food vendors. Loved seeing the Boy Scouts there too, I couldn’t resist the homemade apple pies! I’m was very sorry to see the amount of dogs that were on the premises…. I often wonder what the people with allergies do when they come in contact with them or anyone suffering from ptsd, involving a dog; or a small child that’s just plain scared. But by far the worst experience was being jumped at by the Democratic Party that was there. I paid my suggested donation and then some to enjoy a day out with friends. If I wanted to go to a political rally I would have. Thank you for all your hard work in organizing and best of luck to all the artists!
Thank you PCCART for another great Art and Apples and for all that you do to inspire creative minds in our community.
Cool vibes! Great local artists. Awesome exhibition today--Creatures Large and Small!
People complaining about paying $5 when there was a LARGE sign saying it was a DONATION are embarrassing. This was the best festival to date with the best group of volunteers. Thank you to the staff for your months of hard work to make this event happen.
The "owner" of the arts and apples was so incredibly rude. And all these people are getting tricked into thinking they have to pay $5 when it's only a donation. It needs to be made way more clear that it's a donation.
Arts and Apple's Festival mailer arrived in the September 11 issue of the Rochester Post. Fortunately, I've been attending for years and already had the dates. It's the BEST!
Excellent place for promoting art within the community! There are classes available for adults and children. There are exhibitions. The center even has a gallery for showcasing local art work! Teachers and staff are wonderful! If you have an interest in art, or know someone who does, make a plan to participate with Paint Creek Center for the Arts!
