I've been getting my hair done at 22 Pell Hair Salon for over a decade and I just got my hair colored again! Tony is the only person who knows how to handle my frizzy hair, and I wouldn't dare trust anyone else with my hair. It had been a long time since my last haircut because of the pandemic, and I wanted to do something fun. But first, speaking of the pandemic, I want to mention that the salon has excellent protocols in place, with partitions between all chairs, mask wearing, and constant sanitizing. I felt very safe while I was here. As for the actual coloring, I showed Tony pictures of the purple and pink color combination I was thinking of, and he was able to match it spot on! His assistant did an excellent and meticulous job of first bleaching my hair and then applying the hair dye. Overall I had another excellent experience at 22 Pell and would highly recommend this salon!
After seeing all the reviews raving about this salon, I thought I would walk out with a fantastic haircut. Yall can take a look at the pictures and see how that ended up. James gave me the Bruce Lee special even though I showed him this reference photo first pic. My hair is beyond clapped. During the haircut he said that if I didnt like it, I could come back and get it fixed for half off. You've got to be joking me because not even the forces of the universe can save this. I could blindfold myself with my hands tied and cut my hair better than this. I couldn't even say anything in the salon because Im not confrontational like that and I was in complete and utter shock. It was my first time here and the service was decent and I'm sure he's a nice person but my self esteem will take a long time to recover from this. I actually got home and sobbed because of how bad this looks. I don't know how the other hairdressers perform but just take this as a word of caution.
great haircut and color. i went in with bleached hair with my roots way grown out, and asked them to dye my bleached ends brown and trim a bit of length. they did an excellent job, and tony really knows how to cut hair. i now have a clean haircut that was way better than before. one of my favorite salons in new york, and affordable as well. definitely coming back.
Lives up to the hype! Super welcoming upon arrival and immediately took me back for a hair wash. Got my haircut with Elaine called this morning to see if they could squeeze me in and it is by far the best haircut I have ever gotten. She even walked me through how to style it at home! Cash only - will absolutely come back.Service: Haircut
Got a haircut here after seeing the reviews.. The man who cut my hair told me about 3 times that I should’ve let them wash my hair because it would be “easier” to cut that way but I always get a dry cut without problems... he took his time in the beginning but rushed the end so now the right side is longer than my left. I asked for layers. Instead, I got a straight cut with the ends thinned out. I’ve been getting layers for 10 years and what I got today was definitely NOT layers. I didn’t even bother to ask him to fix it because I didn’t trust him to. I still paid and tipped him for his time. I would not recommend this salon for haircut unless you know a good stylist here.
Today was my second time here. The first time around I had a really good experience and was looking forward to getting my haircut. But today the experience was horrible to say the least. First of all, he seemed very rushed and didn’t seem to listen to what I wanted. I should have walked out then. Somehow I tried to stay positive and hoped he’d do a good job like last time. But Tony serviced three other customers in the time he was doing my hair, and while he was doing he was very rushed and just wanted to get it over with. Super greedy and disrespectful. I asked for fringe and he pulled a few strands in the front without measuring anything. If I had followed insta tutorials and did my own fringe, Id have done a fantastic job than the horrible thing I’m left with. I was seething as I walked out. I’m never going back.
I’ve never left a review before but I just feel like I need to warn people of how horrible this place is. I heard people raving about this place and decided to give it a go. Literally got the worst haircut I have ever received in my entire life. I asked for light layers and framing bangs and only 3 inches off. The hairdresser cut at least 10 inches off and gave me the choppiest haircut I have ever seen. With the little hair that I can manage to tie up, it looks like I have a literal bowl cut because the hairdresser cut the entire front half of my hair chin length, and when my partner and I complained they said that’s what layers are…? I literally could’ve cut my hair myself and it would’ve looked better. Please do not come here.
Worst place ever, went here for a blowout i have curly hair they didnt even allow me to brush my hair through and kept complaining the entire time of how bad my hair is. If they knew they couldn't work on it, they shouldn’t have started the work. Then she does a bad job and blames it on my curly hair.. since when can curly hair not be blow dried properly? Wouldnt recommend, i got home and washed my hair right away as i hated it and my hair ended up damaged and puffy, at the end they never accepted their mistake and said i should get permanent hair straightening done, as if curly hair is a bad thing? Not a good hair salon if you have anytjing other than pin straight asian hair :/Service: Hair straightening
Omg do NOT go here. Literally spend the $$ to go to a proper salon so you hair doesn’t get butchered. I saw this place recommended all over TikTok and I got one of the “top” but not THE top. But the number 2 guy everyone recommended to cut my hair and omg I came out looking like a dam fool. I stressed LONG layers very basic and the guy gave me SHORT STEPS all over my head. Seriously not worth it. Spend the $$ or else you may hate how you look after. And I had one of the guys that was the most recommended too….
I come here for a wash/haircut/blowdry every 2 months. They always do a great job and each time it costs $35.
