I’d give it 4.5 stars. It’s in a safe location that one crossroad before entering Roosevelt Row was a little sketchy at times but not the hostel’s fault. Room and house decorations were very pretty. I wish I spent more time in the garden; it was so nice just sitting there and listening to birds chirping. Loved that they had free oatmeal in the kitchen! As someone who couldn’t eat gluten or eggs I really appreciated having that as an option. The house was a little old and you could hear people talking/moving heavy stuff in neighboring rooms at times but that was pretty much expected at a hostel.
This place is great! I booked the sky room and it's very spacious, comes with a fridge, microwave, kettle etc. The TV also has a Chromecast if you want to laze about during the day and binge watch from your favorite app. The location is excellent, a short walk to supermarkets, the art museum, the library and the excellent coffee shops and restaurants in hipster Roosevelt street. Breakfast is included and it's very well kept, eat too meet others if you wish. It's more like a homestay. Highly recommended, I'm glad we stayed here.
It was a good first experience staying at a hostel. But for the convenience and privacy that I usually like to have when traveling, maybe not my cup of tea. It was pretty clean and nice but I didn't enjoy having to share a shower since it was a little inconvenient. The location is great though and if you're into hostels then this would be a good place to stay.
Loved my stays here in the salado room! Close proximity to restaurants and shops. Tucked away in a quiet area. Great communication from the host. The shared shower is just a regular house shower, make sure you have your own soap/shampoo. Can't wait to return for another stay!Rooms: 5/5
I have traveled to 50 Countries and stayed in Hostels in most of those places. I was looking forward to staying at one in the USA. I went back and forth online for a week trying to book with them and they refused to call to handle questions after I specifically asked 3 times. Then, they wouldn't take a card over the phone and their invoices expire after 8 hours. Their email response is not adaquate so I can imagine what the service is like at the location. If Michael is the owner, its a shame. Employees at hostels are usually helpful, this one was not. If he is missing vocal cords then void this review but I am annoyed enough to come here and post this.
Very nice basic clean and comfortable accommodations in a very friendly environment at a reasonable price. The location is very close to midtown and downtown in an up and coming neighborhood. We especially appreciated that eggs, toast, coffee and tea were all available for guest preparation in the common kitchen. The staff was always available to help and answer questions. 5 Stars for the value. Noteworthy details: Eggs, toast, coffee and tea were all available for guest preparation in the common kitchen
Best hostel I've ever had ! Very easy and quick communication. The room was very clean and a very good value for money in general ! Rooms: Very clean, great value for money Safety: A lot of codes and gates to come in the hostel and in the room Food & drinks: There's a very good breakfast, again great value for money
Great hostel! Michael was always there to help and advise us. Helpful, open minded staff. Good, clean rooms. Large, clean kitchen with everything you need. Great and pleasant atmosphere! would definitely come back!Rooms: 5/5
Wow. What an awesome experience. The Phoenix Hostel feels like a tucked away gem despite being a few minutes walk from the lively Roosevelt strip. Everything was clean, inviting, and inclusive. Deb is incredibly responsive and kind. The hostel is gated and feels very safe and the outdoor area is absolutely stunning. If is not too hot, it’s a great place for morning coffee. The rooms were the perfect temperature and mine had a ceiling fan. There were several options for lighting, including a low-light lamp, perfect for the evenings before bed. There was also an opportunity for privacy, which can be nice at the end of a long day. If you are into more social atmospheres, they host events with local artists; this Friday night there was great live music just steps outside your room wasn’t too loud in the rooms at all. They also use sustainable practices which I very much appreciated. Ten out of ten, would highly recommend for your stay in Phoenix. PS. There is an incredible vegan taco shop only a 4 min walk away! They have a 4.9 rating on Google, and I’m about to head to their page to nudge them even closer to a 5 star. The churo donuts are a must to round out your meal. So good.
I enjoyed my stay at Phoenix Hostel. I originally booked the Navajo room and stayed there for 4 nights- this room was great spacious sleeps 4 with its own mini fridge, but I would caution people that the shower is the smallest shower in the entire world; I am petite and I felt claustrophobic. The shared kitchen was very nice clean. The whole hostel was VERY clean, which I appreciated. My flight home was cancelled and the manager, Francisco, was so kind, helpful, and accommodating on booking me for another night in the separate unit upstairs. That room is awesome with its own kitchen and cute balcony, it is very spacious, there is a space with a desk that you could work remotely. It was really nice and quiet up there too with a full sized shower. Loved this place & would book here again! The location was also very nice in a super cute historic neighborhood, close to 3 vegan restaurants and within walking distance of transit, both bus and metro. It was very easy to get to the desert botanical garden on the bus from here highlight of my trip!. A note: google maps tells you to walk up 7th but there is a really nice pedestrian only bridge across the freeway on 10th, take that instead. Also, it is very easy to get to & from the airport from the hostel on public transit, no matter what someone may tell you. I felt completely safe my entire trip from people but cars not so much... I had several close calls with drivers either running lights or just not paying attention. Phoenix is not very accommodating to pedestrians or bike riders unfortunately.
