Favorite place in Portland. Amazing eats and sweets as well as delicious drinks of all kinds in an awesome iconic portland setting. They also have traditionally served kava and hookah. A true Portland institution.
Staff refuses to let you cash out up front if you know that you’re not ordering anything else. When asked why they can’t just ring you up - so there’s no unfinished business and you can enjoy your experience with the ease of knowing you can simply leave when you’re finished - the staff reacted confrontationally and went on a tangent about it being a restaurant. This is literally the only business with Coffeehouse in its name that is committed to this inefficient process. Lean into convenience and honor simple customer requests. Otherwise the atmosphere and food were great.
Had a lovely Brownie Burnadette Sunday and two pear ciders for under $20! Lovey little spot.
Pied Cow has always been a good place to have a hookah in a gravel backyard. But if you want a cozy cafe, this isn't the place anymore. There is no longer indoor seating; someone perches in a window for people to order. They insisted my friend and I order at the same time, and gave us a bit of a frustrated speech about why, instead of giving me a chance to order. They took my cash and brought change to the table when we got our drinks, which I found to be awkward. Our hot drinks, while tasty, were served in pint glasses, and warm at best; I had to chug mine before it got tepid. Nobody ever stopped back to ask if we needed anything or pick up the check and tip after two hours. The waiter was running, which made me uncomfortable. I'm sorry to have seen this place take such a turn.
The food was good, the prices were amazing, but the service was bad. My friend and I stood at the ordering window for 15 minutes with no employee recognizing we were there. The waiters passed us several times made eye contact and said nothing. It wasn’t until I said something they said “yes we have a few more orders to run out then we’ll take your order”. I wish they would’ve acknowledged us sooner
I’ve been coming to this place for years and I love it no matter what. There’s nothing else like it. Hookah, good beer/decent wine selection, the coffee and stacks are always on point, and the quirky, comfortable atmosphere of the yard is unmatched. It is super laid back, very old school Portland. I think that’s the disconnect in a lot of these reviews. It’s not a fast paced place where you get waited on hand and foot, you get what you need and chill. Definitely not for you if you need servers to wipe your butt for you. But if you’re looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy the company you’re with, it’s perfect.
nice! They had a decent tea selection and even better...a full pot for 2 is only $6! We had the marrionberry pie was so good! We also split the $10 brownie Sunday that was rather larger. Three people snacked on it. It was a decent size. We will definitely be back for more tea, coffee and sweets!! The best part about this place is hands down the outdoor seating. It feels like you're in Peter pan or something. The service is at a hippie speed, just getting by. Everytime I started to want something and would think "where is she?" B/c we hadn't seen get for a while she would magically appear like three second later.
Very unique coffeehouse, offering savoury food items, desserts, coffees, teas, hookah, kava, wine, and beer. Huge selection of teas and coffee. Really delicious desserts and food. Chill laid back atmosphere, with a heated patio option. I never feel rushed when I'm here! Servers are friendly and accomodating.
Service was good, pricing for beer was great and deserts looked really good. Just wish they didn't use instant coals for the hookah.
I was refused service at this place at 6pm on a Friday for no apparent reason. I was asked for my order and then requested a beer. I was asked, 'How many in your party?' I said it was just me. I was asked again about 'my party' and said it's just me. I don't know if this server/merchant didn't like how I looked white guy, well dressed or just didn't like not having a group to serve which would have generated more revenue. The 'server' just abandoned the service window and refused service without further explanation. I've lived and worked in Portland for 15 years and have never been treated this rudely anywhere. Puke
