Reviews
The more I think about our experience at Plum's Cooking Company, the more upset I get. I’m not a review writer, so here goes. My husband and I attended a date-night cooking seminar last Friday, called “A Night in Greece”. We paid $150 for this experience. Which, I am all for spending money if it’s worth it.
Below is the description of the class:
$75 + tax
Our goal is to create a perfect date night menu for you and your guest. You will be spoiled with a delicious meal and demonstration cooking, along with a wine pairing. This will be a monthly event with different themes every month.
Menu
Greek Appetizers
Fried Cheese
Dolmadakia—Stuffed Grape Leaves with Dried Fruits, Rice and Herbs
Moussaka—Lamb and Eggplant Terrine with Tomatoes, Garlic and Herbs
First off -- from this description (and the cost of the class), I was expecting for at least a glass of wine to be included with our meal? Wrong. We had to purchased drinks separately upon arrival. (So we are at a total of $170 for this “experience”).
Second – What were the Greek Appetizers? I’m pretty sure this was missed completely. Because the first thing I ate was the Fried Cheese (which, it was very good).
Third – Everything was already prepared! The Moussaka only needed to be assembled when we got there. The meat sauce and the vegetables were already cooked! All they did was plop it all in a big casserole dish and stick it in the oven for 40 minutes while we watched them roll grape leaves.
Fourth – there was a dessert. The dessert was supposed to have yogurt in with it. The chef mentioned several times throughout the entire demonstration that they didn’t have all the ingredients or the right ingredients to make some of the dishes, this one being one of them. So instead of yogurt, there was supposed to be cream cheese. This was absent in my dessert (this also happened to one of the people we attended with as well).
Needless to say, I lost interest pretty quickly when I figured out I wasn’t going to even know what goes into making Moussaka (how do you prepare the meat, what kind of spices are in there, what’s that sauce, I don’t know… because it was already made before we walked in the door). The rice in the grape leaves was already prepared. We paid $170 to watch someone assemble a casserole.
I would not recommend this to anyone. Eating dinner at a hibachi grill is more exciting than this.

If only our car hadn't been so full. We were working our way across country. Now, I love to bake, and I have NO baking items in my new home. Not only did they have excellent quality items, but the color selection was magnificent!
