This gym has a serious sense of community. I’ve made some great friends while pushing hard to achieve my fitness goals. The programming is great and it’s nice that the gym is linked to Patriot Crossfit for a little variety. The social events are fun, the athletic events are intense, and the people are wonderful.
I LOVE Potomac and Patriot, although I attend Potomac more often. They are so focused on their athletes having proper form, technique and achieving their goals. They have extra classes that focus on diet, gymnastic form, lifting, and mobility. Their programming is very in tune with each gym’s strengths and weaknesses. Payment methods are super easy. Their schedules synchronize well with weather events, holidays, and work shifts. I love crossfit not just for the great intense programming but because they have a great sense of community. This gym encompasses that and more. I’ve met great athletes that inspire, motivate, and have a great sense of humor. The events the gym schedules are always in line with improving community and capability and I can’t wait to participate in more events. My personal motivation is lacking and by going to the gym I have accomplished more each visit.
This is an incredible place! Being new to CrossFit and power lifting in general, I was nervous at first. What I have found is an incredibly inclusive and supportive community, smart and helpful coaches and a beautiful, well maintained facility. The location is perfect if you live in the Courthouse area, but also metro accessible. You also have the flexibility to go to their other gym, Patriot CrossFit, that is just a few miles away.
Love Potomac Crossfit! It is conveniently located ~2-3 minutes walk from the metro. The coaching and programming focuses a lot on technique and getting the foundations right. You can’t drop the weights here, which can make pushing oneself on heavy lifts challenging, but they make up for it in the quantity and quality of their gymnastic equipment. The membership gets you access to both Patriot Crossfit and Potomac Crossfit, so my fiancé and I typically go to Patriot where dropping weights is permitted on heavy lifting days and Potomac on gymnastic days. The community is great—very friendly and supportive!
Potomac Crossfit is one of the best gyms I have been to in the area. It is definitely intimidating when you first walk in, but so is your "first day" at any gym. No one is there to show-off, everyone is coming in to work out and feel better about themselves. I was injured at one point and Brian Wilson and the other coaches were incredibly accommodating. The environment is incredibly supportive and everyone there wants you to be fit, on your own terms, and feel great.
huge and well-organized, well-maintained and clean facility. excellent coaching staff. Terrific blog, great for education and Q&A w/other members and coaches. offer paleo-prepared meals for pick up at the gym and grass fed and/or finished meat ordering and pick up. No dropping rule bothers some but they just go to its sister facility, Patriot Crossfit, where dropping is allowed and doesn't cost extra to go there. People are cool and friendly. An extra benefit is the running commentary on a variety of topics in the morning classes by Coach Brian. Enlightening ;-
I've been going to Potomac for almost a year now. It's a great community of coaches and members. They have a strong intro program for people new to crossfit, and they focus on safety as much as they do on getting results. It's a very welcoming group, I've made friends, and I've been super happy with the results. Stop by and check out the free classes on Saturday.
Love, love, love this place! Huge gym, great coaches I obviously have my favorites, like Brian Wilson, Brian Wilkins and Maria Roselle, awesome atmosphere. - I'm hooked! Pity you can't drop weights, but I haven't found that to be an issue seeing as I'm not lifting more than I can manage, and when/if I get to that point, their sister gym, Patriot, which is included in the membership price, is the place they offer as an option to go and drop those weights. Again, love this place.
I admit I was a bit of a skeptic at first when it came to Crossfit. I'm still new to it, but I absolutely love it. A friend once told me it would be life changing when it came to working out, and I now understand that. Potomac has a great community and is a nice facility. I was intimidated to start, but know now there was no reason to be. Everyone has been really helpful and encouraging. Coach Maria is the best!!
Dropped in while on a business trip. Super convenient as it was directly across the street from my hotel. Box was decent size with 2 long rigs and plenty of floor space. Coach and staff were very nice and accommodating. Hoping my schedule will allow me to drop in the rest of the week. If back in Crystal City I will be planning on dropping back in.
