3.5 stars overall ! writing this review 6 days after my appointment. definitely a good salon experience. i booked an appointment online super easy, and showed up a little early. not sure if the girl who took me was the person i booked with lol. she was super nice though. my biggest issue was the skill level : i do love the shape of my nails. i came in/booked an apres gel manicure, but we ended up doing a gel mani with my natural nails. when she was cleaning up my cuticles with the nail drill, it hurt quite a bit on some of my fingers. you can see in my photos that it's red on my ring and pinky finger because she went too hard on my cuticles. they've scabbed up now on my pinky finger. additionally, there was a lot of gel flooding on my cuticles and underneath my nails. i had to ask her to remove the gel underneath my nails. lastly, the design on my nails looks pretty good from far away, but up close, the lines are a bit uneven and wobbly. i do want to say that the stations didn't seem the most sanitary but oh well price was as expected: $40 for the gel manicure, and $10 for the design.
Please feel free to zoom in on my nails for details! I received an apres gel-x set for the first time by the co-owner which I told her this fact so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, to my surprise, my set came out sub-par. The co-owner, Ashley, pushed back my appointment by 1 hour at 2pm because she was late, which she texted me letting me know, so I let that go because I also had an amazing gel pedicure by Ja’Lisa who is great and professional and she finished by the adjusted time change but I still had to wait another hour. Ashley didn’t officially begin working on me until about 3:05-3:10pm. She wasn’t very conversational and I had to initiate most of our talk just asking questions or making a comment about my nails. She didn’t wear a mask which confused me because customers are required to wear them as stated on the site and she was on her phone which is a big deal to me. Ja’Lisa ignored her calls while she did my pedicure. I will say, Ashley’s shape game is pretty good and I was pleased with my almond shape BUT she didn’t clean up around my nail bed after the polish application and I have huge chunks of gel under my nails. From afar, my nails look appealing but I can see every imperfection which is what matters most. With all that in consideration my overall rating is 2.5 as this was my first time coming and she didn’t leave a lasting impression on me.
This nail shop is the best shop I have ever been to in Memphis. I just had my second visit with them. My first appt was with Jaycee who is absolutely BOMB at the nail designs. My shellac lasted a while and never lifted. My second time coming, I went to Jamye. She did an amazing job as well. My shellac was done in a timely manner. Even though I was a few minutes late for my appt, she still took me and didnt rush on my services! I would recommend this business over and over again. Did I mention that they are also BLACK OWNED! Continue to support black business people!
*Update below* The two stars is for getting me in and out in less than hour. The interior was okay but felt a bit cluttered and could use some care. I took off 3 stars because of the price and quality of my gel nails. I got silver gel polish, no manicure for $48… that’s steep for just simple gel nails with no design. But the business is small so I suppose I can understand. But ive had these nails for less than 24 hours and the polish is ALREADY CHIPPED. I’ve done absolutely nothing outside of my normal, and even if I did, 1 day old nails should not be chipping. Not good quality polish. Honestly feels thinner than gel polish I’ve received in the past. Couldn’t recommend. Update: I appreciate the transparency on the review. Now I understand why I was charged an extra $20. What I don’t understand is why you never mentioned you were fixing broken nails. I never asked for them to be repaired. If they were broken I would have just asked you to cut them. You didn’t tell me what you were doing. You never asked me if that’s what I wanted. You just assumed and did it and then charged me what, $15 bucks for two nails?! That’s pretty outrageous. I was curious as to why you were adding some clear looking polish to only two of my nails. I should have asked but then again, you would have already done it by that point and still would’ve charged me. Don’t add services on for your clients without discussing it with them first. It’s deceitful. If I didn’t get a manicure, what would make you think I wanted to add on $20 worth of extra services? And as for the ‘gel soak off’, I did not receive that service. I expected to, but instead you used a nail filer. I honestly didn’t care at the time whether it was soaked off or not, but looking back, it now just seems like a way to cut corners by using less but charging the same. Very disappointed and taking this review to one star. Definitely wouldn’t return and absolutely wouldn’t recommend getting work done here.
I have been a client with Ashley for over 4 years. She is very friendly, dedicated, and professional. She always try to fit me in her schedule even when I call at the last minute. Ashley takes her time and handle me with care. We always have a nice and pleasant conversation. When I walk in the salon I don't feel like a customer I feel like family because everyone welcomes me with open arms. I think Pretti Nails is the perfect salon for you if you're looking for Professionalism, Quality, and Style.
This is my second time getting my nails done here, and look at these cutie pies . These are the x-gel nails. First time for these too, and I like them.
Took my girl so we could spend in the black community to recycle the black dollar, the work is as good as the Asian nail salons but they charge double that of the Asian salons less the free chanclas they give you and at check out they shamelessly ask if you want to tip. My two cents to them is get your prices in line and offer the chanclas, if you want your community to solicit your business you must be competitive and word of mouth will be the best advertising you have.
My job brought me to Memphis for a couple of months. After researching I found Pretti Nails and was happy to see they were Black owned. The first time I went I didn’t wait long and the technician was very nice and professional. The atmosphere was a plus very clean and modern. I went again on Tuesday had another technician and she was very nice as well. Everyone there was professional. I will most definitely come again!
I have gone to Pretti Nails since they opened and have been a customer of the co-owner Ashley for about 4 years now. Everything about the shop, owners and employees is great. They are friendly, warm, and always make you feel welcome and happy to be there. Plus, everyone in the shop does amazing work. If you are looking to support a black-owned business for your nails you should definitely try Pretti Nails.
I came for a replied and repair. The place was nice and the nail techs were really nice/professional. My polish began to bubble and peel off the very next day.
