Our company has been a customer with Protection One for 16 years. We sold our business to a new owner in late November. I called in late November to cancel our service when I could confirm the sale. Several reps have now told me that because I didn't give them 2 months written notice that now my contract automatically renewed for another whole year. As we can't know precisely when our business was going to sell, it was impractical for us to give two months advance notice. This company could care less that we have been paying them for a decade and a half and would rather give us a swift kick in the butt on our way out the door. They expect me to pay for another full year of service, completely unused by us, because supposedly our contract from 16 years ago says they can renew our contract annually. No exception for the closing of a business. Even Comcast, known for being not customer friendly, has this exception for businesses that have closed and they actually gave us a small refund. I see from the other posts here that my experience is very similar to many other people. I would never recommend using this company. Absolutely no customer loyalty. The people in charge here are too stupid to realize that years of paying for their service more than offsets gouging a customer for $570 at the end of our time. We have another business and a home, but now would never consider using this company for anything in the future. And I will actively tell everyone I know to avoid this company. My next phone call is to the guy who bought my business to warn him about Protection One.
I was with protection one for almost 5 years. During this time we had a fire in our garage. When we tried to use the deductible assistance feature they tout on selling you with I was always told by a rep they need to look into something and would call me back. They never did and after 3 months of the run around a rep finally said, oh I'm sorry its past 90 days so you don't qualify. If you do not cancel they renew your contract annually after 5 years so you are in a annual renewal so that they can charge you the maximum cancellation fee if you ever chose to. I cancelled and was told I had 60 days to pay my cancellation fee, they disabled my account so I can't pay online and I am yet to recieve a bell for it. Given my experiences with this company over the years this is intentional so that they can add late fees and anyother fee to bill you for. After 5 years of residential service I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this company at all costs. They do not care about you, only how much money they can get from you. When I did finally cancel I had to argue with the rep for nearly an hour as to why before they would just finally cancel it. They will tell you lies about everyother company out there, for example when they found out I switched to comcast they told me it was strictly internet based security and it I lost power I would have no security system. This is totally untrue at Comcast is backed up by a cellular card so that you will never need to worry about power outages and loss of internet for this exact reason. STAY AWAY
This is one of the WORST places I have ever worked with! I could write a novel about everything that went wrong with this company but instead that I will just write the bullet points of how terrible our experience was with protection one. *The sales rep was incorrect about a lot of information. The things that he was wrong about were the only reasons that we signed up. One week later he quit, before the installation of the service. * The tech did not tell us that certain thing would not work the way we wanted until AFTER he installed it. * Never once had the camera up and working, but still got charged for the services because they did the installation *Got a call from the company about payment let them know the service was not working and told the nice customer service rep the issue. She let me know that someone would be calling me, they never called. *Got another call from a customer service rep about payment and then called back and let them know that I waiting for a call back, still never got a call. *Got a third call from a customer service rep about payment and told them how upset I was and finally got a call back from a local manager. * Spoke with the manager for about 45 minutes went over EVERYTHING with him and he stated that nothing like this has ever come up before and that we was going to talk with the regional manager and either himself or the regional manager would call me back the next day. No call. **Got ANOTHER call from a customer service rep about payment and then called back and let them know that I waiting for a call back from the local managers and I never heard from them. I later that day got a call from the regional manager. FINALLY * At this point we are pretty upset about the service and don't want to work with this company anymore. * Manager states that he is really sorry for the miscommunication and told me what to do to fix it, not really the point 7 months later. *His answer is - "a contract is a contract" and the fact that we had terrible service with them, the fact that we were unable to use the camera AT ALL, and the fact that his tech and his sales guy lied to us, doesn't really matter because there is a contract and that is what they will go by. Well of course the other way you don't get money for services we are not using *Installation for the system that we never got working was like $400-500 and 15 per month. There is so much more but it doesn't really matter. There are plenty of other companies that have similar service for the same prices if not better that will make sure you are taken care of in a decent time frame, back up what their staff says or make it right when there are incorrect. Go with ANY other company. It would have to better than Protection 1. Do you research if you do decided to go with them, read EVERY line on their the contract and if they tell you something is different than what the contact say do not believe them. Once it is signed it is sealed.
This deserves negative stars. The absolute worst customer service I think I've dealt with any company. Worse than ComCast and that is saying something. Technicians are by far the most incompetant. Also the fact that you can't even reach this branch by phone to let them know how bad they are, and then also lie about their hours. I could go on but I think you get the point. This place should be closed and the employees should find another line of work. Complete garbage customer service. Plain and simple. Try calling them, you'll be on hold for at least a half hour.
Trash company. We've been trying to cancel our plan for 5 months and still are getting billed for $207.20,and we had it for 5 years and when it was installed they fell off during the following week. They said "this is your last payment" in January of 2020 and it's may 15. DO NOT USE THIS CONPANY.
Horrible customer service ! Do not go with this company ! ADT lied to us. They did not return $ 180.00 in our bank like agreed upon. The most illiterate , rude employees i have ever delt with. If you sign a contract and are lied to , file immediately in small claims cpurt as we are going to this week.
This is a horrible company - as most security companies are. They charged us $184 labor to tell us that our account had gone off-line because of a phone issue. Absolutely no labor involved - these companies find reasons to charge you all the time for nothing. They're all a bunch of creeps.
Terrible customer service. Had an issue with moving and the only way I could keep their system was pay to have it moved. If I didn't pay they would charge me a cancellation fee of $700. Do not sign up with them because if there's any change in your living situation they are going to make sure they get paid no matter what.
After installing two units, I STILL, months later, have no method to contact anyone local. Ridiculous. At least the alarm service I removed was communicative.
I don't even know where to begin. This company is completely non customer focused and very, very unprofessional and slimy. They will lock you into a contract you never signed up for. Take yourself business elsewhere.
