We visited the Columbia SC area in Sept and went to the open air market in downtown Columbia which I was told is open every Saturday in the summer. We had a great time visiting all the different tents where merchants sale everything you can think of. They actually close down almost a whole street in front of the capital building for this event. Would recommend anyone visiting the area check this out.
Love Love Love Soda City Market. It's a must see experience every time I'm in town. The food trucks, artwork, jewelry, crafts, live music and so much more. It's busy and filled with people but rarely long lines. Everyone respects each other and even the dogs enjoy the fun-filled outing. Personal favorites - Kettle Corn Popcorn, candles and oils from Sebastian, fresh vegetables and infused olive oil and a necklace from Mystic Arts and Crafts.
My family and I visited this event today; 8 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 infant. It is a family-friendly event but not catered specifically for children or teenagers. There are a variety of vendors that sell clothing, artifacts, drinks, miscellaneous items etc. There is also live music throughout the event. We had a lot of fun and was able to purchase some neat items and eat some good treats. Event is from 9 AM to 1 PM. I was a bit surprised that there were no portable bathrooms available for the attendees. We had to walk around to find someplace that would let us use their facility’s bathroom. This was very inconvenient.

I was hoping for many more vegetable vendors. The food truck we ate at was pretty good but it was expensive for what it was. Also, we paid $6 for a glass of lemonade. Way too much for a glass of lemonade.
What a great market! I don't think I could have done this before I was vaccinated, it's really crowded. But it felt so nice and normal, just like before Covid! I think there is usually more live entertainment in the middle of the street, but I've never been before so I didn't miss it. Lots of food, good for breakfast and/or lunch. I managed a dairy-free protein shake, a sausage biscuit, shrimp and grits and a piece of cake during my visit. Tons of vendors, lots of plants and produce, jewelry, candles/oils, art, pottery, just everything you would imagine. There's even a lady who sells miniatures that she makes herself -they are SO CUTE! Definitely worth a visit. The earlier you go, the easier it will be to find street parking - I only had a short walk to where I parked on Lady Street, which is one end of the market. There are NO official bathrooms - they don't truck in port-o-potties - so most people go to the Mast General Store. EDIT - on a second visit, I had the fresh donuts and they were INCREDIBLE, best thing there. I also had some seafood paella and it was okay. Watch out for dogs! Everybody likes to bring their dogs and sometimes traffic jams happen when dogs want to greet each other. It's easy to run into someone else or get tripped.
This was the coolest experience that my daughter and i stumbled on. It was dog friendly and family friendly. You could get just about anything here. Fresh veggies and fruits, hand made crafts, and neat trinkets here and there. Tons of street food made in front of you and several food trucks. I LOVED walking this event and just smelling all the food and purchasing nicknacks. This is definitely an experience you should show up for if you are in Columbia SC.
Great place to stroll, find unique items, support entrepreneurship, eat, bring familypets included, meet people and enjoy your Saturday morning! Every Saturday year 'round from 9a - 1p weather permitting. There's public parking across from the Oliver Gospel Mission on Taylor St.
soda city is always a lot of fun! even in the heat there's a lot of shade and cool drinks easily available. always enjoy the variety of local vendors - the art, food, and music is always a nice way to spend a Saturday morning.
Truly unique experience. Great variety of vendors. Hard to believe the work they put in to do that every weekend. Nice walk. Pet friendly. Easy parking in garage. Great cultural variety of food.
