My mother recently got a revision hip surgery. Dr. Ran was able to squeeze her into his busy schedule. Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf suggested she get it 7 weeks prior to our trip to Europe. He did an exceptional job. My mother was walking without a walker and cane within 2 weeks. She had a successful surgery and is now pain free after many years and was able to walk fairly long distances throughout our trip without any assistance. I highly recommend him for hip surgery. Thank You Doctor!
Thank you Dr. Schwarzkopf for giving me my life back! I had a total hip replacement in Columbia Presbyterian in 2015, got loose and caused me pain and limping, had a revision in 2018 by the same doctor at Columbia and got loose again. They would not fix it at Columbia, tried 3 more doctors and nobody wanted to "take the risk". Went to Dr. Schwarzkopf and he told me I needed a reconstruction and that had to be done immediately. I went for a third opinion at Hospital for Special Surgery and they confirmed that I should have the surgery right away. Because of the bad experiences with my 2 previous surgeries in 5 years my trust and hope were very low. I asked Dr. Schwarzkopf what he would do differently and he was very thorough explaining why he was confident he would fix it including the risks and worst case scenario which would have been even better than the nightmare I was living for half a decade. So I had the third hip replacement surgery in December 2021. I'm happy to report that I am pain free for the first time in so many years, I'm doing aqua fitness, weight training and biking regularly. I'm 63 and I feel younger and healthier than 15 years ago. Thank you Doctor and NYU Langone!
Dr Schwarzkopf didnt botheror didnt bother or want to explain what gel injections are or how they are different from cortizone injections. Then his staff forgot to order the injections and they forgot to request authorization from my health care company.
Having traversed the corridors and operating rooms of the NYC orthopedic community for two decades, I feel confident of my understanding of the field overall. Regarding surgeons, I have seen the very best and some versions of the worst. I have enjoyed and dreaded appointments, experiencing both compassion and disregard, anger and humor - and, of course, huge egos. To date, I have undergone: two hip replacements; two knee replacements; one knee revision; and one laminectomy. Needless to say, I have had countless x-rays, special studies with contrast, at least a dozen cortisone injections, several aspirations and one transfusion. I have been operated on by big names, rising stars and department heads at the two best orthopedic hospitals in NYC. I share this background solely for the purpose of placing my very high regard for Ran Schwarzkopf, M.D. into a verifiable context. He is a consummate professional, not near the apex his career, and yet vastly experienced in specific orthopedic conditions and diseases of knees and hips. When you meet with Dr. Schwarzkopf, he is on time - the same with online responses, which are seemingly immediate. He shows no sign of ego, rather he brings a bias to action relative to the concerns of the patient, but without any ‘sales’ effort whatsoever. Full disclosure, I have not had surgery with Dr. Schwarzkopf, but he is aware of my history and has, without exception, made himself available as I work through the aches and pains of an aging body and some joint replacements reaching retirement age! No one wants a to have a body part replaced, a procedure that is both an imperative, while also elective. It is the rare physician who can navigate this complex terrain with such impeccability as Dr. Schwarzkopf. Clearly, I very much wish I had met him at the beginning of my orthopedic journey - for he is the real deal – five stars!
I want to give Dr. Schwarzkopf the highest possible rating for his skill in replacing my knee in November, 2019, at the NYU orthopedic center. This was the fifth and final surgery on my knee in 19 months following a traumatic accident earlier procedures were done by others. I have osteoporosis, and I also had an history of infection in the knee, which had caused earlier knee hardware to be removed. Both of these conditions made my knee replacement more challenging than the typical procedure. Granted, he is a man of few words what surgeon isn't?, but of high technical skill. He was very concerned about the possibility of a hidden infection in the surrounding tissue and took extra measures to address this. Now almost four months out, he is confident that all is well -- and I have a new life ahead. Who would choose their surgeon based on a google review? He is the surgeon that other surgeons recommended, which was all I needed to hear. Everything was very well organized during the entire process, which, by the way, was out-patient! March 2021
Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf has poor organization skills, bedsides manner, greed for the money, and the lack of health outcome. I had total revised knee surgery 9 months ago and as of today I cannot walk or bend my right knee. I still have pain, discomfort, buckling and swelling of the knee. I mention the swelling to Dr.Schwarzkopf and he referred me to pain management for anti-inflammatory medication. The poor billing practice in his office is disturbing gave my Worker Compensation insurance information and they billed my private insurance for the surgery. I had to contact my private insurance to have them retracted the payment and force Dr.Schwarzkopf office to bill worker compensation. When I question him why I am having this problem with my knee, he became confrontational, aggressive and repetitive even though I was simply looking for a rational explanation. I eventually ran from Dr.Ran Schwarzkopf because something was definitely wrong with my knee. I advise people to run fast… I have NOTHING nice to say about this doctor who should have his license revoked.
I am not Dr. Shwartzkopf’s patient, but I spoke to him recently regarding my 83 year old father’s upcoming consultation about a knee replacement operation. Unfortunately, my father is not in great physical and mental health and he is not capable of making such an important decision. The Hospital of Special Surgery refused to operate on him due to his health issues two years ago. Dr. Shwartzkopf said that he can do the surgery. I was concerned about the recovery process, but the doctor ignored my concerns. He does not care about the patient’s recovery. All that matters is to get paid for the elective surgery. I spoke to the doctor prior to my father’s appointment, trying to explain that my father has many medical issues including heart problems, diabetes, a prior stroke, trauma on the same leg that never fully healed, etc… I asked the doctor to keep this conversation confidential. The first thing that doctor’s assistant said to my father is that the doctor spoke to me on the morning of the appointment. I also mentioned that my father’s cardiologist won’t give him clearance for the surgery, so the doctor gave him another cardiologist’s phone number. The doctor does not seem to care about anything but his financial well being especially having elective surgeries cancelled last year due to COVID. What about the Hippocratic Oath? Do yourself a favor, find another doctor!

Just saw Ran S. for the first time regarding knee issues. First of all his practice was awesome. Everyone was super nice and no-nonsense. I waited about 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment to be taken to the exam, but that seems pretty normal for a first time patient. It was all very efficient and once the appointment started everything moved along smoothly. First a medical assistant took some notes, then we got some x-rays done. Right after that the Nurse Practitioner came in and we talked about what was bothering me. She was super patient and wrote everything down, even my amateur diagnosis... A few minutes later Dr. Schwarzkopf came in and manually checked out what I was feeling and we discussed each of the problems. His advice was solid and it seemed like he had read the notes before he came in so between the notes, the film and checkup we had a very good idea of what was going on and what to do about it with no time wasted. In the end I think his advice was correct and the treatment plan seems correct. For knee issues this Dr. is a great option.
I saw a the best hip doctor in Staten Island and he doesn't hold a candle to Dr. Schwarzkopf. I was worried about my surgery and would email a question and received an answer anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour. The surgery went well, the doctor was terrific as are his entire staff. I highly recommend him. I have sent several friends to him and they all love him. He's the best.
