It was a nice room. Very convenient location. Sounded like I had an elephant upstairs, very heavy-footed. Didn't hear anyone next to me. But the train outside the window was a bit much, ask for an interior room and I'm sure it won't be a big deal. Every staff member I dealt with was very friendly. Except for the person I talked to on the phone that lied to me and told me that our group rate was sold out and tried to sell me a room at more than the going rate online, it absolutely was not sold out and another employee managed to get it for us when we showed up in person.
This downtown hotel was very versatile for long table meetup or small group comfy and stylish tables with TV for all. They also have a courtyard for games such as basketball and putt putt golf. The staff was very professional. The rooms are very accommodating for longer stays. The location is perfect for events in DesMoines. It is close to the baseball stadium and Court Avenue bars and restaurants. Everything you need to live is in close proximity. The stay here is great for a family, work, or entertainment.
Awful experience. Tried reserving rooms for the hotel next door for my wedding. Had so many troubles reaching the hotel event coordinator who was the coordinator for this hotel and the one next door to reserve the rooms, emailed many times and called multiple times as well. When he would finally answer the phone, he would just tell me to email him. Ok? But you don’t email back, thus forcing me to call to make sure you are actually receiving my emails. He eventually reserved us hotel rooms for this hotel again originally wanting the other hotel but at this rate I didn’t want to change it because of the struggles we were having reaching him. Our guests then had issues reserving the rooms saying there were no rooms saved under our wedding name and we had to contact him again and again and again. At this point, I made another review talking about how we talked to some foreigner out in CA who asked me how to spell “bride and groom” and then once I gave him my card number, he hung up on me. This also happened to my mother when getting her room as well…Come wedding weekend, rooms were dirty. The pull out bed had many stains, a used fork, and a pen in it, so obviously not cleaned. Too many issues and stressful experiences to recommend it to others. Too expensive as well.
The rooms are a nice size but the carpet in my room was dirty. The bed had the common worn section on the side used most to get in and out. There is a railroad track in front of the hotel. The trains are loud with their horns. Trains can come by at any time. It was pretty consistent to have a train passing every night at 3:40am. The hotel's construction seems to be wood as the floors bounce and transmit sounds to the floor below. I could also hear my neighbor's conversations. The breakfast was generally good. I didn't expect it but almost everyday there were almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds though. The location is pretty good being downtown on the river.
Outstanding hotel. Amazing staff and super comfortable room. I used the workout area. It was clean and all the equipment worked. Was also walking distance to a local brewery Peace Tree Brewing Co. The breakfast the next morning was one of the best I have had at a hotel that has breakfast included in the stay. In addition, Des Moines looks like a neat town to explore I was only there for the night. We will be back to spend some time in Des Moines, and we will definitely stay here again.
Perfect for a family traveling through with kids and pets. Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Just what we needed for the night.Rooms: 5/5
Honestly way nice than I would have thought, normally stay at the other hotel on the block and this was better priced, and not completely booked, and was a super nice experience. It's right near a couple places I like to visit when I am in DSM. Hessen Haus, HighLife Lounge, and El Bait Shop.Rooms: 5/5
Can I give negative stars? Checked in 7/3/2022, fourth time within the past twelve months. The hotel is convenient, just off of the highway and allows dogs for a reasonable fee. My dog is twelve and thus I always request a first floor room as he can no longer go up that many steps and is afraid of elevators. A request in my three previous stays that has always been gladly taken care of. New front desk associate, not trained and not her fault BTW, eventually got the first floor room, great. Not so great, the room's A/C was broken. They offered a room on the 4th floor, told them why I could not do that, and frankly were rude about it. It was late at that point, so switching hotels was not an option and I needed to get on the road early in the morning. We stuck it out in the sauna. They also charged for parking. They have never done that, when I asked the manager he said "we always charge for parking" no I said, look at my past stays, he says "we always charge for parking." Isn't it nice when a business looks you in the eye and lies to you, and their lie is proved by simply looking at my past stays. This ping pong match went on for a bit, I just gave up. There was a July 4th firework celebration and street parking was not available. So the manager gouged people staying at the property. Classy. Checked out of the sauna and went on my way. So, I fired off an email to Marriott corporate. I received a response on 7/12/22 from Eric A., Marriott Bonvoy Case Resolution Specialist expressing regret for the stay issues. I was offered 5,000 points to my account, which were posted. This does little to be honest. So, I wrote again, and Eric A. reached out to the property again. This is where it gets interesting. Saturday, 7/30/22, I received a notice on my phone Apple card and phone that the hotel has charged me another $103 plus tax of $12.36. At first I thought it was a credit, but nope, it was a charge. I received a call yes an actual phone call from the property, a gentleman named Tony L. I don't like using full names and he assured me I was not reading this correctly and it was a credit. I provided him a screenshot indicating that it was in fact a charge. He said, "this is how our system works, I need to put in a phony charge then credit it back to you." This was on folio #48454. Yes, I am still awaiting the credit. So, I asked both Eric and Tony to please resolve this or I will dispute the charge. As of today 8/4/2022, no responses have been received, so I was forced to dispute the charge, send screen shots of the folio, emails, etc. to support my position. I was appreciative of the effort to compensate me for the miserable stay, but if you say you're going to do something, then do it, and do not lie to me when you concoct phony stories as to way you can't, then go totally silent when I prove you wrong. PLEASE DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY
