Rittenhouse has been my go-to needlepoint store for a few years now since they were at their old location, and I don't go anywhere else! I live in Delaware and have family in Philly so I visit them as often as I can. I do a lot of work with them online as well. My go to gift for family members is a needlework piece that I design myself and the painting department has always made the process so wonderful! Whenever I need a design panted and treads pulled, I go straight to the wonderful artists employed at this store. Needlepoint is not a cheap hobby I was spoiled when I was younger because the store I went to priced all of the pieces to include the thread and I have never found them to be overly expensive. I can't wait until I can go see them again hopefully the end of this week when I'm in Philly having lunch with friends at the Reading Terminal Market!.
Rittenhouse Needlepoint is one of my favorite places! The staff there is so knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Every time I go, they help me find what I need within a couple minutes, but then I stay to explore because their inventory is amazing. I recently got a sweater at a consignment shop that is in need of a little mending, and the staff at Rittenhouse Needlepoint helped me find the perfect thread to match. This place is truly a hidden gem!
They finished a stocking for my daughter that I did. I can’t say enough about their customer service, attention to detail, and speed of service. Will be using them for all of my finishing needs.
The only reason this is not 5 stars is because I don't yet have the finished painting and design but I am confident that when I get it I will bump it up to 5. I am so excited to be writing this because the custom work that I am having done has been in my mind for at least 10 years. I am now living in Maryland not far from Philly and was there for a conference and decided to drop by to see if my dream could become a reality. My desire was to have a cover made for my prayerbook. I love the hand-painted prayerbooks from the 14 and 1500's no chance I'll ever own one so I thought I could have a cover designed for mine with symbols and phrases that were important to me. I had never been to the store and when I went in I was received warmly that doesn't always happen as a male in textile oriented stores I asked to speak with someone about a design and I was shown right away to the back where Zack was working in the art dept. He was immediately as excited as I was about what I wanted and I went from just thinking about it, with a plan to return later with a decision, to committing right then to doing it and starting the design. It was a pleasurable and fun experience from the start. Zack let me know he was transitioning to a new job and so he jumped on it and had a design mock up to me in 4 days and is making the alteration designs we discussed because he wanted to have this done for me before he leaves. Obviously none of this is cheap not overpriced just not cheap and Zack has made the experience wonderful from the start. I'm always happy to spend money when I am enjoying myself and being treated so well in the process. I'm already thinking about having a cover made for my Bible and if the end result of my prayerbook is as great as I expect then I'll be starting a design for a Bible cover and other items along the way. I'm so glad I took the time to stop by and look forward to doing business with them in the future. I'm sorry they are losing Zack and hope they replace him with someone just as helpful and proficient.
I’ve shopped here for the past year for my needlepoint supplies, and Ive always been super impressed with the quality of the products and the salespeople are really friendly and helpful. I’m giving the store a negative review for three reasons: First, the last time I went into the store, I saw a roach in the bathroom and when there’s one roach, there’s an infestation. Considering the cost of the threads I purchase and their quality, this is incredibly upsetting. Additionally, the air conditioning wasn’t working and the store was sweltering. Finally, I’ve seen the store manager openly berate her staff. As someone who worked in retail for years, I find this kind of behavior completely unacceptable as well as unprofessional. This is supposed to be one of the top stores in the nation for needlepoint supplies, and much as I like have liked shopping here, I will take my patronage to a store that values their product and treats their staff with respect.
What a gem of a store! I was not expecting it to be so enjoyable to be inside but it really is a wonderful place. They have TONS of materials and accessories. What excellent vibes. A+
Outstanding selection of projects and threads. Design and finishing services are excellent. Highly recommended for anyone who does needlepoint.
I love this place. Very friendly atmosphere. Staff have always been ready to help with any questions. Huge selection of embroidery floss. I also appreciate that they are offering shopping by appointment during the pandemic. When I emailed for an appointment, they got back to me very promptly. Not only did they confirm that they carried what I needed, they had it waiting for me behind the counter when I arrived.
It has been many years since I have been to the shop. The last time was in an old location. It was definitely worth the trip, traffic, finding parking, to go. And that part wasn’t that bad. The store is my idea of needlepoint heaven! It is enormous, more threads than I knew existed and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Next time I will hang out longer!
Great painting and finishing services. Lots of threads to choose from!
