I had visited this shop to fix a rounded out screw on my seat post. The tech at River City Bicycles was able to get the screw out in no time at all. Very skilled tech, given that I had asked a few other shops before heading out to River City Bicycles. Very reasonable place -- they charged me very minimal for this. I had purchased the bike from them as well a year and a half ago. Very good bike shop in all, with very competent sales and bike service shop.
I took my 25 year old bike in to have a flat tire fixed and have it generally looked over. The service department at River City Bikes really blew me away. I hadn't called in or anything, but they fit me in that day. They were knowledgeable, so helpful, and worked with me to get my bike back in shape. The whole time they were very communicative and straightforward about the costs. Maybe it just wasn't a very busy day, but they had my bike ready for pickup in around six hours. I'll never take my bike or let my friends take their bikes anywhere else.
The service has always been great at River City. Within the last year I got a new bike the components I’m not as familiar with. Mike not only replaced my brakes but was super helpful explaining to me what to look out for and advice on how to maintain my brakes and chain. I’ve dealt with a lot of pretentious bike shops here in Portland. This experience was so far from that. Super grateful for Mike and his willingness to teach and listen.
I want to take a moment to appreciate Brandon. I stopped in yesterday to pick up some odds and ends to get my bikes back up and running and had the absolute pleasure of being helped by this gent. He talked me through best choices for my projects, explained pros/cons for each application, was conscientious of price, and overall provided exemplary service. From initial greeting to end of interaction a 10/10, stand out guy. River City is lucky to have him.
I have been coming to River City all the time for adjustments, servicing, buying gear, and anything else for my bike needs. I recently brought my ebike in because the breaks weren’t giving me much power. Gabe took a look, figured out my issue and went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure my breaks were up to safety standards and even gave me a small upgrade to improve the longevity of my breaks. Absolutely feels so much better to ride and cannot say enough amazing things about the team that works and supports the community here. 1000/10 would recommend and I’ll continue to come back!!!
I believe Portland found its "Premiere Bike Shop". River City Bikes is a clear cut winner, in my book. They cut/threaded 2 bike spokes on Sunday afternoon. I had no expectations before I called. It was great!
This place rocks. Shout out to Alex in service who hooked it up with instant help today. I was expecting to have to wait for days to pick up my repair and he just fixed it instantly. Talk about service. Been coming here for various bike services and purchases over the years, and I’ll keep on coming back because it’s my favorite bike shop in PDX.
Very knowledgeable and great service. Friendliest bike service in Portland so far, they struck me for really wanting to help. Foster a good sense of community. High end, but great, reliable stuff.
I loved coming here and the Belmont location. Purchased two wheelsets, multiple visits for repairs on my Diverge, along with a number of odds and ends. Last week, I purchased Giro Aether Spherical helmet in medium. Maybe it was ambitious with my M/L head, but I decided to go for it. Wore it out for one ride and had a headache nearly the entire way. Went in to hopefully exchange it for a large and there is nothing that can be done. Not sure how I was supposed figure out that it wasn't for me if not out on a ride, but now I'm out $300 bucks. I'm displeased at best. Edit: I was grumpy while writing this review. Back up to 4 stars. I just wish there was a way to take a helmet out on a ride before buying; here or anywhere in town.
My bike fit with Jacob Rathe saved my life!!! I had severe neck pain and was getting migraines after long rides. I went from 300 mile multi day tours to not being able to ride 20 miles without pain. Jacob assessed my fit, made some changes to my set up, and gave me some pointers on posture, stretching, and key strengthening exercises. Almost immediately my pain disappeared, and my stoke returned. Thank you RCB and Jacob Rathe for getting my stoke back. 100% recommend, and the service shop is top notch as well!
