Tonkatsu was really tender delicious. The eggplant dish was amazing beyond expectations. Spinaches in sesame sauce was great. I think most of the small dishes are even better than main dishes. Overall worthy to visit!Food: 4/5
Surprisingly delicious Japanese food in the center of Ala Moana. The back has tatami mat seating with leg room under the tablestry asking for reservations for 4-5. Berkshire pork tonkatsu was juicy yet outer batter was an airy crisp crunch. Served with thinly sliced raw cabbage and a light citrus dressing. Dipping sauce comes in a large container that you pour into a bowl made for grinding your own sesame seeds with a wooden sticksmells so good. If you have a heavier palette, get the mixed katsu. It has molten cheese inside. Special sushisalmon & scallop was very fresh. Crab soup & agedashi tofu set was a nice lighter option to counter the deep fried stuff. Desserts. Matcha creme brulee was not too sweet and very creamy. Youkan was less sweet and great if you like azuki. Nice selections of sake, shochu, and a few bottled beers too.
Eggplant dengaku is amazing - I know it's an appetizer, but trust me. Butterfish was good and I don't even like fish. The service was really great, very prompt. The place felt very fancy but also relaxed? We went midday on a weekday and it wasn't very busy.Food: 5/5
Overall it was good and I was hungry but portions are a lot smaller than I was expecting. The other katsu places give more katsu portions. But other than that it was good and the service was great!Food: 4/5
The first time I went there their shrimp tempura is the best I have ever had. It is crispy light and really juicy. The shrimp is slightly raw in the center which makes it not as overcooked as in other restaurants. The second time though it was not good. Not crispy and very greasy. The tonkatsu is also very heavy. The teriyaki salmon is great. Perfectly cooked and not too sweet and have a subtle charred flavor. The experience really depends on the chefs’ shifts.
Really nice restaurant with great service, and food was amazing! I recommend any of the katsu dishes.Food: 5/5
We didn’t have to wait for seating at all during lunch time. The wait staff was attentive. The food was excellent and came out fast. The katsu is soft, fluffy and crispy. The atmosphere is unique and eloquent. Would be a great place for a date.Food: 5/5
Went there around 1pm on a Tuesday. Restaurant was half full. Service was quick and good. Our waiter could do better if he didn’t spill any sauce. No harm done though. The prices were reasonable. Food quality was not top notch but decent. The ambiance was good. We liked it. The rice was good. The sashimi was about average compared to northern California Japanese restaurants.
Not sure why others did not like the katsu here. This place has one of the best katsu I’ve tried. Their sashimi are also very fresh! Prices are a bit steep; expect to spend $20~$30 on a katsu.
Great food there. Fresh Sashimi, tender tonkatsu and the best grilled butterfishcod. Nice ambient of the restaurant too. The waitres was very attentive as well. I wish they have more sushi variety.
