Ruby Jewel Ice Cream

Very yummy homemade ice cream! I got the cookies and cream and loved it! They do have a good list of various flavors to choose from. You can also add a brownie to your ice cream, or have it served in a cone bowl. The restaurant itself is decorated very nicely. The staff wasn't super friendly, but they weren't rude at all either. Just average. We stayed at the hotel around the corner from here and are here 3 times during our stay!

I Hate to give such a poor review but am compelled to do so because of the absolutely terrible encounter experienced by my 16-year-old son had. We are enrolled members of the Klamath Tribes and were in Portland for a concert. I am in a power chair with oxygen and my son and I have long black hair and are dark skinned. I mention this due to the profiling we occasionally face. We came three hours early to the concert and left the venue to explore nearby shops. We came upon Ruby Jewel and a treat sounded great! Upon arriving, we found it strange that there were no other patrons and apparently no employees. After waiting only a minute or so, I called out ‘Hello?’ and at that point an employee came forward. There was no greeting, no smile, just a disinterested stare. Well, we ordered ice cream cones which he scooped and put on the top of a waffle cone. It was overpriced and not very high quality product. But it was the disdainful treatment from the employee as well as the high price which leaves me with reviewing this shop with one star.

Ice cream is sacred. This place treats it as such. I tried 4 flavors before the employee gave me a bit of an exasperated look. The line was building up, so that was fair. The flavors were good but not the best I’ve ever had. I thought the service could have been a little more friendly but coming at the end of a shift didn’t lend them to being overly courteous.

The custom choice ice cream sandwiches are definitely the way to go. Any flavor of their ice cream packed between two fresh-baked cookies? And they are MONSTROUS! Their pre-packaged ice cream sandwich options are also to die for. The flavor pairings are amazing. I would recommend the brown sugar cookies with Oregon strawberry ice cream or the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with the butterscotch ice cream. Words cannot describe how amazing these things are!

The staff was super friendly and helpful! It was a cool rainy day so there wasn't a huge crowd...but I can see it getting crowded on a warmer day. The ice cream sandwich was great! They have a few non dairy options which were tasty. I'd definitely recommend this place!
